Thinking about chickens and eggs after reading the recent news.

Lots of frustrated residents in Birmingham for lots of reasons:
Road conditions,
Traffic noise,
Speeding,
Ignoring red lights or stop signs,
Short Term Rentals,
Etc.

If you think I am not incredibly frustrated too, you have not talked with me in person.

I am tired of no progress, analysis paralysis, fear of “what might happen”, politics & internal politics.

Either everyone does what is best for the community as a whole or they need to go away and stop with the personal agendas.

Really tired of it all and this is not what it was supposed to be. It is no longer a fun volunteer job, and if anyone feels they can do better, we have an open spot, apply for it.

This is a growing issue that many have seen and raised.
Someone will get hurt sooner or later and the legal ramifications extend to the parents who purchase and allow kids to operate these.

Please help keep our children and community safe. See the following Public Safety Notice regarding e-motorcycles.

This is a serious incident in our city and we need to allow the Police Department and our City Attorneys to handle it appropriately.
You are all safe, we are all safe.

**UPDATE: The Jan. 16, 2026 City of Birmingham snow emergency parking ban has been lifted, however Dept. of Public Services crews ask that residents refrain from parking in the street until it has been cleaned. Crews are still cleaning up and salting residential areas. Thank you!**

Due to the snow received overnight and additional snowfall expected tomorrow, a City of Birmingham snow emergency parking ban will be in effect on Friday, Jan. 16, beginning at 12:01 a.m. in the downtown business district and at 8 a.m. in the rest of the city.

During an emergency parking ban, it is a civil infraction to park a vehicle or allow it to remain parked on any residential roadway until the road is cleared of snow. Please do not shovel snow into the road or onto someone else's property. Illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed and may be towed, with the vehicle’s registered owner responsible for the towing cost. No tickets will be issued to vehicles with a handicapped parking designation.

Gates at the Chester Street Parking Structure (180 Chester Street) will be open for free access to help residents move vehicles off the street during the parking ban. For parking concerns, please call police dispatch at (248) 530-1889.

Find detailed information about snow removal, plowing routes and street priorities during snow events at bhamgov.org/snow.

Be really careful of ANY email, phone call or text message asking for immediate payment, it most likely is a scam.
Always check via a trusted method with the organization asking for the payment.
Call their number directly, don’t click on a link or let your self be connected.
Use their trusted website by going to it manually, not via a link
Etc.

The City of Birmingham has received reports of fraudulent emails containing fake invoices sent to Board of Zoning Appeals variance applicants, requesting payment by wire transfer. This is a scam—the City will never request payment via wire transfer. If you are unsure whether a fee is legitimate, contact your City representative to verify or notify the Police Department for investigation.
