From our trauma-informed, compassion-focused Community Table to yours 🤍

For the past three weeks, we’ve gathered around The Purpose of War: What Conflict Reveals in the Body, Systems, and History by Dr. Elizabeth Brewer, and the conversation moved through history, memory, nervous systems, grief, resilience, and the quiet wars people carry inside themselves.

Together, we explored:
• the battles that came before us
• the battles within us
• and the ways our bodies remember conflict

Dr. Brewer’s work helped us better understand our nervous systems, body memory, chronic stress, and the ways survival responses can shape our health, relationships, and healing. Around the table, people reflected on fight, flight, freeze, fawn, grief, adulthood, identity, and what it means to stay present with ourselves and one another.

Community Table continues to remind us that healing rarely happens through performance or perfection. More often, it happens slowly: in circles, in honesty, in being witnessed, in learning the language of our own bodies, and in discovering we are not alone at the table. 🕯️

Just a couple of superheroes caught on camera listening to their podcast for the first time! In honor of Earth Day, head to the link in our bio to hear “Rome Wasn’t Recycled in a Day” with Michelle & Lisa! They discuss lifting up women, rebuilding lives, and of course — RECYCLING PLASTIC!! ♻️🌎

We are so pumped to be chosen by the brilliant young leaders of Youth Leadership Birmingham for their 2026 Human Services Day Grant Award 🥇❤️

These students represent zip codes all across our city—showing up to learn leadership through service, government, the arts, and real community impact.

And here’s what we know for sure:
Birmingham is in very good hands — your future leaders are the real deal.🔥

Thank you, for welcoming us to your celebration, where we got to see friends both new and old, learn about your hard work and amazing experiences, and listen to the profound words of keynote speaker Javacia Harris Bowser from ✍️

Also, a huge high five to Director Katherine Berdy for the vital work you do to encourage youth leadership. Every bit of this = JOY!!

We’re honored to be part of these leaders’ story—and even more excited to watch what they build next 🤩

We are honored and grateful to be recipients of the Birmingham BOLD Grant for 2026!🙌

BOLD stands for Building Opportunity for Lasting Change—and that’s exactly the work we do every day at Community on the Rise.

Birmingham’s investment in us fuels safe housing, meaningful employment that grows into leadership opportunity, a path to home ownership, and celebrating women reimagining their lives after being underestimated for far too long.

We’re building pathways where there weren’t any—through our housing initiatives, recycling justice enterprise, and through a belief that talent has always been there… it just needed opportunity.

Grateful to the City of Birmingham Government for believing in what’s possible.

This is how change takes root—and grows 🌱

We never skip the hard parts — we lean into them and build bigger connection, bigger joy, and bigger love. Because even on the toughest days, we belong to each other. Remembering that truth, and appreciating a good sense of humor - makes all the difference.❤️
