The Magic City was selected to be part of the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF), a partnership between Birmingham and Bloomberg Philanthropies!

If you're age 15–24 and live in Birmingham, you can apply for $1,000–$5,000 to bring your climate project to life. That's real money for YOUR idea.

Birmingham, we're moving forward TOGETHER.

This week, Council President Pro Tempore LaTonya A. Tate joined Mayor Randall Woodfin and community partners from across the city to unveil the Birmingham Violence Reduction Strategic Plan. It's a five-year roadmap to build a safer Magic City by 2031.

This isn't just a police plan. It's a whole-community plan grounded in four pillars:
1) Supporting Safety and Wellness
2) Engaging and Empowering Community
3) Strengthening Policy and Oversight
4) Increasing Youth Safety

The goal: a 10% year-over-year reduction in homicides and nonfatal shootings, achieved through data-driven policing, expanded community violence intervention, youth conflict resolution and mentorship programs, capacity building for community-based organizations, and stronger victim services.

Birmingham has already seen the impact of this coordinated approach with a 43% decrease in homicides in 2025. This plan builds on that momentum.

Safety isn't just the absence of violence. It's the presence of opportunity, trust, and hope. And that takes all of us.

Join us for a special conversation with Richard Dial, Roscoe Hall, and Celestia Morgan, three Birmingham-area artists featured in the exhibition, and moderated by Jade Powers, Hugh Kaul Curator of Contemporary Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art.

Through photography, painting, and sculpture, the panel will explore the ways personal narrative, cultural memory, and lived experience shape each artist’s practice while reflecting broader histories tied to race, place, labor, family, and systemic inequity in the American South. Together, the artists will discuss how their works engage both personal and collective histories, transforming regional experiences into powerful contributions to the ongoing story of Black American art.

Birmingham is taking a major step toward becoming a national leader in accessibility, inclusion and workforce development through a new partnership with KultureCity. The Birmingham City Council approved a development agreement that will bring a transformative $39.5 million investment to the city, creating a first-of-its-kind destination designed to empower individuals with disabilities through education, employment, recreation and community engagement.

The project will include the nation’s first technical college built specifically to train, support and place individuals with disabilities into meaningful careers. It will also feature sensory-inclusive public spaces and amenities, including playgrounds, green spaces, walking paths, water features, retail and culinary offerings, and a performance amphitheater.

Mayor Randall Woodfin says, “This project represents the very best of what Birmingham can be, a city that leads with compassion, innovation, and opportunity." KultureCity Co-Founder Dr. Julian Maha added, “This project will serve as a national model for what is possible when accessibility, education, employment, and community are intentionally brought together in one place.”
