Here is your RFP Tip of the Week, because the only reason to bid on an RFP is to WIN!
It took nearly 24-hours to travel back from Dubai. Grateful for God’s favor that none of my (3) flights were delayed and thankful for 8-hours of restful sleep in my own bed!! And guess what?
I arrived early for my 1st of 3 small business coaching sessions as a facilitator with the Birmingham Business Alliance's TeamUp program to help businesses scale.
Yes. I’m THAT committed business leader. When I was here the Monday after the Classic, I had a “bring your friend to work” experience because my girl Marlene Hunter's flight was delayed 4-times. She eventually got home!!!
But anyway, I’m ready for a nap!!! .
Thank you, Birmingham Business Alliance, for hosting the Magic City HBCU breakfast last week! We had a great time meeting various HBCUs around Alabama and hearing about the importance of internships and real-world work experience for HBCU students.

We enjoyed supporting the at their HBCU breakfast. If you haven’t considered an HBCU student for an internship you certainly should. Birmingham Business Alliance
Oh nothing!!! Just had to get cute for my staff retreat presentation for the Freshwater Land Trust and then my virtual meeting with the Birmingham Business Alliance for our TeamUp cohort discussion. Now I can get comfortable in leggings and a T-shirt!!! . .
October 8, save the date. We'll see you soon, Birmingham. 😎
And thank you to our sponsors for making it all possible.

Dr. Judy Merritt Inducted into Birmingham Business Hall of Fame
The Kiwanis Club of Birmingham added six business leaders to its Birmingham Business Hall of Fame on August 25, 2022. The 2022 Hall of Fame class includes former Jefferson State Community College President Dr. Judy Merritt and also:
- Dr. Kirkwood R. Balton, Booker T. Washington Insurance Co.
- Thomas E. Jernigan, Marathon Corporation
- Claude B. Nielsen, Coca-Cola Bottling Company UNITED
- David W. Wood II, Wood Fruitticher Grocery Company
- John H. Wood, Wood Fruitticher Grocery Company
The Birmingham Business Hall of Fame Committee annually selects business leaders to induct into the hall of fame who have shown strong leadership and made extraordinary contributions to the Greater Birmingham area.
“The Kiwanis of Birmingham is honored to recognize Birmingham leaders who have helped build a stronger community, economy and workforce," said Kiwanis President Leigh Davis. "Twenty-five years ago, past Kiwanis President Fox DeFuniak created the Birmingham Business Hall of Fame to thank these leaders, now numbering 135, by celebrating their hard work. We hope it preserves the legacy of their work, helps future generations understand what it has taken to build the Magic City, and inspires them to keep strengthening our community.”
The Birmingham Kiwanis Club established the Birmingham Business Hall of Fame in 1997. Each honoree is recognized on a glass wall inside the Harbert Center in Downtown Birmingham.
