Congratulations to Wilkerson's Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Melissa O'Neal! We are excited about her being in the running to compete for Secondary Teacher of the Year for our district. Melissa is a focused, determined, and progressive math educator committed to student learning and professional growth. Melissa has been invited to and volunteered to participate in several educational programs aimed at closing the learning gap for students in urban districts by being a part of initiatives and educational groups such as SUSME_ Supporting Urban Science and Math Educators; ACTM_ Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics; ALNBCT Network_ Alabama National Board Certified Teachers. Through her involvement in these groups, Melissa has gained a plethora of knowledge concerning current trends in math education which she utilizes in classes to increase her students understanding and ability to make connections to math and the real world. Melissa encourages novice educators, and those newly graduated students from colleges and universities to use their passion and commitment to improve the lives of the disadvantaged youth. #TeamWilkerson is honored to celebrate you all year.

We are grateful for our relationship with all law enforcement. At the start of every school year since 2016, we have been privileged in our partnership with Birmingham law enforcement thanks to Captain Janice Blackwell, in holding our Annual “Blue is True Back to School Rally.” The in person students along with our virtual students heard from our officers this morning after being greeted curbside about the importance of being model students and addressed issues that are pressing for their age group. They also had the opportunity to pose questions for officers to answer.

We would like to thank Mayor Randall Woodfin, Sheriff Mark Pettway, Commissioner Shelia Tyson, Community Stakeholders, CBS42 and WBRC Fox 6 News for supporting our 5th Annual event.

Good Morning, when will the awards ceremony start?
Go Wilkerson!
Wilkerson is beyond proud to recognize our Chief Learning Officer, Mrs. Davida H. Johnson for representing District 5 as the 2019-2020 AAMSP Principal of the Year!
What a teachable moment during the football game last night when the team was down with little over a minute left. The principal went to the fence for cheerleaders to keep cheering. This taught that never give up until the game is over. This also applies to life NEVER GIVE UP. So guess what the team came back and won. GREAT JOB !!!!!!
The school and leadership offers a well-rounded education for our students and their families. Keep up the great work Principal Johnson to give families hope for the future.
I will be coming this year and I am so excited and confident about going to this school I have seen so many good and positive rates about this school
Online opportunities for youth...😊
