Good morning Birmingham Civitan (and everyone else who follows our club),

Civitan has arranged a great opportunity for this morning (Saturday). If you are looking for a great way to learn some leadership principles, consider joining in on this special offer (FREE) from Disney.

Here's the message from CI:

For more than three decades, Disney Institute has been helping to advise and train a variety of professionals, teams and organizations worldwide based on the business insights and best practices of Disney parks and resorts.

As a Civitan, this is your chance to attend a one-of-a-kind leadership Zoom workshop presented by Disney Institute, that is absolutely free!

Join us for a very special Civitan Connect Learning Lab LIVE! focused on leadership excellence, on Saturday, April 10th at 10am EDT/9am CDT. To sign up for this course, go to http://civitan.org/DI/. Once you have registered, you will get an acknowledgement from Civitan International with further instructions. This course is a two-hour commitment, and will be facilitated in English. A participant guide is also distributed as part of this event. We hope to see you there!

I know we will all miss this view, but in talking with The Club, we have cancelled the April meeting due to the COVID-19 situation. Hoping to see everyone in MAY!

I suspect there will be a lot of nonprofits looking for help by then, so keep your eyes and ears open for projects.

Bham Club, check in here and let the rest of the club know you are well.

Civitan was founded in Birmingham during WWI and one of the very first efforts by the club was raising money through bonds to support troops fighting overseas.

In the 1940s, a Birmingham Civitan, Raymond Weeks, led the effort to create Veterans Day in America as a day of peace. Thank you to the men and women who have served our country.

Happy Veterans Day!

Our Club had the pleasure of having Sara Franklin speak to us Friday. Sara is the new Executive Director of the Epilepsy Foundation of Alabama. Sara told us about her personal, unexpected bout with epilepsy which occurred a couple of years ago as an adult. She also told us that 1 in 10 people will have a seizure in their lifetime. There are 54,000 Alabamians with epilepsy. She has already helped the Foundation raise $65,000 recently at a “Walk for Epilepsy” fundraiser! Her talk was very informative! Thank you Sara!

Dr. D had a great time teaching 3rd and 4th graders at West Blocton Elementary (Bibb County) about Veterans Day Founding History and Character Traits Education. Thanks to School Board member Mike Oakley (Alabama Power and Alabama National Guard) for encouraging the school to invite me to share history and character traits education related to Veterans Day starting in Alabama. This video may be of interest to teachers of K-12 in Alabama History, U.S. History, Character Traits, or Leadership, who want a program on similar content. Or, parents wanting to see some of what students can learn about patriotism, courage, perseverance and other character traits associated with leaders who serve may wish to view. The handout is posted at the Life Leaders web site as noted on the video description: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4Ad1Xw5-ww&t=260s Thanks to Terry Schrimscher, advertising executive and president of Birmingham Civitan Club for attending to video the presentation. Please excuse the typo in the graphic below. Founding is spelled correctly on the YouTube channel.
