Join Gateway in Honoring Juneteenth. - Gateway

As we celebrate the ending of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865, Gateway honors the courageous men and women who have changed the world advocating for Civil Rights on the streets of Birmingham.

On the same streets thousands marched in the 1960s, inspiring murals downtown encourage us to have important conversations about racial equality. From the Black Lives Matter mural on 1st Avenue South to the paintings throughout downtown, the art inspires all of us to do our part in bringing Birmingham together for a future that looks different from our past.

Please join Gateway in honoring Juneteenth with our children, families, friends and staff. May we all live the values of integrity, equity and equality in everything we do and say. Thank you for doing your part in building a better future for our children, families and communities. 🖤

Therapeutic Foster Parent Certified 🙌🏽

Thanks to Gateway, I have had the opportunity to be a therapeutic foster parent to more than 3 children, since 2015.

I have not had a child in my home since March of 2021. Since, I’ve started my nonprofit, The Gatherings MNO Group mentoring teenage girls, I’ve decided to start fostering again 🙏🏽

👉🏽🎉🥳Last night, I completed a 10 week training and now I am once again certified to help nurture, guide, support and give a home to a child in need.

I am so excited about the journey to come and helping make a difference in my next foster child’s life.

Support 2022 Changemaker, Maeci Walker, by purchasing your ticket + giving in her honor at Unleashed: A Philanthroparty, Presented by EBSCO! 👉

Maeci represents corporations, trade associations, and municipalities before the Alabama State Legislature, executive agencies of state government, and the United States Congress. She has worked with lawmakers of various backgrounds, managing large associations, running political campaigns, and collaborating with grassroots opinion leaders throughout Alabama. Every November, time is set aside to focus special attention on the needs of vulnerable children - orphans and those in need of adoption, foster care or other special services. Tonight's Outreach Wednesday looks at the issues facing these children and what we can do to help support them. Our session will feature guests from Agape of Central Alabama , Gateway and Lifeline Children's Services . We'll also get a unique perspective from a Homewood family active in fostering children.
