As we ring in the new year, we're looking back at the work we accomplished with our partners. We removed over 50,000 pounds of trash from our waters this year - but how does that break down by state? Check out our totals across the six different states where we currently have Litter Gitter sites. With the help of our partners, we'll be able to intercept even MORE floating trash in 2021!

Ground was broken today on the Birmingham Xpress project, a rapid bus system that spans 10 miles and run from Five Points West through downtown Birmingham to Woodlawn. It will connect 25 city neighborhoods and aims to be completed by summer 2022. It will be the first bus rapid transit system in Alabama.

“Simply put, Birmingham Xpress will be a connector for eastern and western neighborhoods to jobs, services and opportunities,” Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin said. “Providing reliable, efficient and alternative transportation options for our residents and visitors has been a priority. Birmingham Xpress will enhance public transportation for our residents and neighborhoods.”

Public Works crews flush out inlets and clear ditches and creeks on a daily basis. In preparation for heavy rain events, the crews focus on flood prone-areas. Among their many stops today was this inlet near Roosevelt Community Center in the 5900 block of Warner Street. Be weather aware tonight as Tropical Storm #Zeta approaches Birmingham.
