We are pleased to announce that we now offer a new in depth form of divination, Merindinlogun. While there are many variants using from eight to 21 cowrie shells, West African-derived forms most commonly use 16 cowrie shells on a prepared table or on a mat on the ground, interpreting the patterns that result which are known as Odu. Before casting the shells, the priest/priestess invokes and salutes the Orishas, and puts questions to them. The Orishas answer the questions by influencing the way the shells fall on the table. By appointment only as this is a very personal experience. Please contact us for pricing.

Please excuse the poor quality of the photo. It is at these times I wish I had a real camera instead of just my phone.

Enough of that.

Let me introduce you to Yemaya, the Mother of All, as well as most of the Orisha.

Yemaya gave birth to the stars and sky and the oceans. She is the Divine Mother who gave life..well Life.

You will most often find Yemaya in the ocean, but She can also be found in lagoons and lakes.

Yemaja can be a very understanding parent. She loves Her children and cares for them deeply. Yet, She can also be a fierce warrior and bathe in the blood of her enemies. Do not threaten Her children! I am sure She can also be counted on to administer 'tough love' should the need arise.

Her number is 7 and Her colors are blue and silver. She enjoys rich foods that She may share of Shango.

When deciding to feature an Orisha/Loa of the week I immediately of course have to feature Papa Legba for a variety of reason. Traditionally Papa goes first anyway, but also, if I am being completely honest, Papa is my favorite of all of the Orisha.

Where to start with Papa? There is so much information from so many places, some I agree with and others I do not. I don't want to make this post too long that it bores, but I also don't want it to be so short as to almost be insulting.

Papa Legba is the first called in every ritual. It is through him that all other Orisha come through and are able to communicate with us. Papa is the Guardian of the Gateway and Orisha of the Crossroads. Offerings for Legba usually include black coffee, peppermints or other sweets, good dark rum, and black cigarettes.

My favorite image of Legba is out of Sallie Ann Glassman's Voodoo Tarot. It features an older man sitting down before a fire telling a story. To me, this captures the essence of Legba to a 'T'. When I have sat and had conversations with Legba it truly is like sitting down with an older relative. He does not come out give you the answer, but if you listen to his stories you will find the answer that you need.

For myself, I petition Legba to keep my home safe. He has an altar sitting near the front door and he keeps out those that don't need to be there, physical and spiritual in nature. Legba is associated with St. Peter and St. Lazarus. Offerings to him can be left at a four-way crossroads.

Good Friday afternoon ladies and gents!

Well Mambo is back from her lovely vacation to New Orleans and has decided some hard work needs to be done. We are busy fulfilling orders and getting them ready for pick up or shipping out. If you have a request please drop a message in the box.

As it is she is going to have me busy helping her put together spell kits, chickens feet, candles, and bathsalts. It looks to be a very busy weekend.

We hope you have a relaxing weekend and look forward to hearing from you.

Is summer really almost over? Where has this year gone?!

Sometimes when you start to learn about root work and hoodoo it gets a little overwhelming. You can walk into a storefront or see a website and wonder how to use the products you see. I know because I have been there myself.

A couple of weeks ago I cracked an idea and decide to run with it. I will try every week to feature a different product and how to best use it for the results you are looking for.

This week I decided to focus first on powders. There are several varieties but the use of them sometimes makes heads whirl and eyes cross! We don't want that lovlies, so let me help guide your way.

Drawing powders are wonderful item to keep on hand for your magical toolbox. The powders are meant to do what their name suggest, which is to draw your desire and wishes to you.
The most common question though is, "How do you use drawing powders?"

One way is to dress candles. Pick a drawing powder that corresponds with your spell work. Anoint the candle with appropriate oil(s) and then roll the candle in the drawing powder. Go about your spell work as you normally would.

Another way, is to feed your sachet or mojo bag. Sprinkle in a pinch or three of the appropriate powder into your magical bag to give it an added boost. When you feed your bag sprinkle the drawing powder on the outside to renew its energy.

You can also sprinkle a bit of powder in the foot path or across their doorway of someone to influence their decisions and action.

Sprinkle the powder directly on you for a boost of your own personal energy and spell work and to bring what you desire to you.
Experiment and explore the various drawing powders to see what works for you and enjoy a new way of working magic.

I hope this has helped give you some clarification and also inspired some ideas of future workings

Till next time, laissez les bons temps rouler!

Good Monday morning lovlies! Last week the Mambo was working up a storm restocking candles and bath salts. She added 25 new types, created some gorgeous new labels for the bath salts and in general just made everything fabulous.

Over the weekend I was able to take some pictures of the new products and get them posted here for you. Enjoy exploring the new products and have a blessed week.
