Sign up for this FREE virtual discussion with three of our faculty members in partnership with the Hoover Public Library. We’ll see you tonight at 6!

We've added Aparna Dwivedi to the Fairy Tales Retold panel on June 29.

Join us in a virtual discussion of modern adult fiction's take on old fairy tales with Kerry Madden-Lunsford, Anamaria Santiago, and Aparna Dwivedi of UAB's Department of English.

We always seem to find ourselves coming back to the classics because, well, they've been with us for centuries for a reason! In this virtual discussion, we will explore how enticing these stories are and how authors put a modern twist on legends in order to entice a new audience

Getting out from under the influence - Austin Kleon

"That’s where the gateway to style is. And when you see something in your life, in your heart, in your world that the style of your hero can’t accommodate, then it’s a time for growth."

Who are your influences and when did you decide that it was time to grow?

On the crucial moment when a writer realizes his hero’s voice and his own worldview don’t match up.
