During these days many people are really struggling. Maybe you.

No matter how much pain you’re experiencing right now, you’re not alone. Many of us have had suicidal thoughts at some point in our lives. Feeling suicidal is not a character defect, and it doesn’t mean that you are crazy, or weak, or flawed. It only means that you have more pain than you can cope with right now. But with time and support, you can overcome your problems and the pain and suicidal feelings will pass.

Some of the finest, most admired, needed, and talented people have been where you are now. Many of us have thought about taking our own lives when we’ve felt overwhelmed by depression and devoid of all hope. But the pain of depression can be treated and hope can be renewed.

No matter what your situation, there are people who need you, places where you can make a difference, and experiences that can remind you that life is worth living. It takes real courage to face death and step back from the brink. You can use that courage to face life, to learn coping skills for overcoming depression, and for finding the strength to keep going.

Don’t forget to keep communicating. Physical isolation does not have to mean total isolation. Check on your friends and loved ones via FaceTime, text, email, etc.

The Sigma Chi Eta new member induction ceremony scheduled for April 9 has been canceled. New members have been enrolled, and we will try to schedule a reception

5K Race and Eggstravaganza Suspended

We are so disappointed to share this news. In an effort toward a proactive response, with numerous bans on large gatherings taking place across our country, the administration of Jefferson State Community College made a decision to suspend the event we were to hold on April 11, 2020.

The Judy Merritt Memorial 5k & Eggstravaganza is currently suspended meaning we are assuming we will have to cancel the event in a few days to weeks and wish to alert all participants so you can adjust your plans.

As most of you know, this is a fundraiser for JSCC scholarships, so if you have registered for the 5K Race and wish to receive a refund, we are happy to do that and will probably be mailing those out in the next two weeks. If you wish for your payment to be a donation, we can mail a letter from our Foundation thanking you for your tax-deductible gift.

We fully expect to be back and “running” next year! The 7,000 candy-filled eggs we have already purchased will be distributed to local schools and churches and we will keep you updated!

We thank you for your understanding and certainly wish you and your loved ones health and safety during this uncertain time. We hope to see you next year and thank you for supporting JSCC!

Blessings,
Libby Holmes
