We were honored to welcome part of the American Cast Iron Pipe Company team to Shades Mountain Filter Plant! Industry partnerships are key to helping us deliver exceptional quality drinking water to customers across five counties.

Thank you, Central Alabama Water, for giving some of our Sales and Project Management employees a tour of Shades Mountain Filter Plant. We enjoyed seeing how drinking water is treated and delivered to the communities CAW serves, including through our own AMERICAN Ductile Iron Pipe.

Fun fact: The Shades Mountain Filter Plant is one of four treatment plants operated by CAW. Together, these plants deliver an average of 110 million gallons of water each day to customers across five counties.

We appreciated spending time with members of the U.S. Coast Guard yesterday! We gave them a tour of our Western Filter Plant and visited their campus at the former site of Birmingham-Southern College.

Thank you to the Coast Guard for your hospitality and the opportunity to learn more about one another’s work. We look forward to building this relationship!

Help us congratulate all our water treatment plants for earning prestigious water quality awards!

Each of our four plants received the EPA’s Area-Wide Optimization Program awards. The awards recognize water treatment plants that go beyond minimum state and federal drinking water regulations to deliver exceptional water quality and strengthen public health protection.

The plants were recognized for their continued commitment to operational excellence and providing high-quality drinking water.
- Shades Mountain Water Treatment Plant – 15 Years
- Putnam Water Treatment Plant – 15 Years
- Carson Water Treatment Plant – 5 Years
- Western Water Treatment Plant – 4 Years

The awards were presented at the Alabama Dept. of Environmental Management’s 27th Annual Surface Water Meeting in Wetumpka. We’re incredibly proud of their efforts and continued focus on protecting public health and serving our communities!

Federal judge dismisses lawsuit against Central Alabama Water
For Immediate Release: Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026

U.S. District Judge Anna M. Manasco today issued a ruling dismissing without prejudice Woodfin, et al. v. Ivey, et al. The lawsuit challenged the legislation that created Central Alabama Water.

“Central Alabama Water is pleased this case was dismissed today by Judge Manasco,” Shan Paden, General Counsel for Central Alabama Water said. “The Court’s action lifts a heavy burden and confirms that Alabama Act No. 2025-297 was lawfully passed by the Alabama Legislature and created a new regional water utility. We have maintained that our legal position was supported by facts and the law and this ruling validates our claims. We will continue building a world-class water utility that focuses on serving its customers.”

Background
- Woodfin, et al. v. Ivey, et al. and Muhammad, et al. v. Waggoner, et al. were both federal lawsuits filed in 2025 to challenge the creation of Central Alabama Water.
- A hearing regarding both lawsuits was held in federal court Aug. 20, 2026.
- Judge Manasco dismissed with prejudice Muhammad, et al. v. Waggoner, et al. at the hearing.

Today we recognize Imagine a Day Without Water, now in its 12th year, to highlight the importance of water in our everyday lives.

Central Alabama Water is blessed with an abundant supply of water and proud to provide high-quality drinking water our customers can depend on. Water is essential to life, our communities and our future.

This observance is a reminder that water is one of our most valuable resources. Let’s appreciate it, protect it and never take it for granted.

Work is wrapping up on Scout Creek Court in Hoover! The crew laid the topcoat of asphalt this morning. We used 140 tons of asphalt to repave a lane of the road after repairing a water main.

Work is underway on Scout Creek Court in Hoover. The crew is removing the old asphalt, compacting the subsurface material and laying a base coat of asphalt. Weather permitting, they expect to apply the final coat of asphalt tomorrow.

CAW is repaving one lane of the road because potholes developed after a water main was repaired. Detour signs are posted and residents can access their homes during the project.

Several members of our team recently toured American Cast Iron Pipe Company to learn how the pipe used by CAW is manufactured.
