For Raven Rupert, a paramedic with Lifeguard Ambulance Service of Mobile, Alabama, Black History Month holds significant importance as an African American female in a field that was once not accepting of her demographic. It serves as a reminder of the progress made and how blessed she feels to be part of a small number in her field. Raven emphasizes the importance of not judging people based on their appearance or occupation, and encourages others to never give up on their goals.

As a Communications Specialist, Leslie Mitchell believes that Black History Month is significant because it highlights the contributions and accomplishments of African Americans and serves as a reminder of ongoing efforts toward racial equality and social justice. She sees EMS as a field with a wide range of career opportunities for people from all backgrounds.

Outdoor laser light displays have become a popular way to decorate homes during the holiday season. While these displays are very festive, many homeowners are unaware of the danger they can pose to pilots flying overhead if improperly positioned. In 2021, the FAA logged a record-breaking 8,550 laser strike reports. Lifeguard Ambulance Service encourages homeowners to consider the following when setting up holiday light displays.

Position the laser light so that the beams are terminated on the surface of your home, trees with very dense foliage or objects on the ground. The projectors should be arranged to prevent beams from going into airspace.

Make sure your display device power is listed below 1 milliwatt.

Never aim a laser pointer or laser display into the sky. Purposely aiming at an aircraft could lead to fines of up to $11,000 and possible jail time. See less

As we celebrate EMS Week and honor those who serve, we also want to recognize those who support our first responders. In 2021 Blake Dozier took on the role of operations manager at Lifeguard Morgan County and has spent the past year focusing on the team.

Lacey Ghrigsby, shares the positive impact the team has experienced with Blake as their leader. “We’ve seen an increase in compensation, received weekly catered lunches, and recognition for our hard work. Blake has encouraged team members to further their education through the “Earn While You Learn” program, with three employees successfully graduating from the program this year.”

In addition to his role as operations manager, Blake is also a dedicated and skilled paramedic. While working a shift last month, he saved a patient’s life, demonstrating his commitment and compassion for his community.

“I love telling others about Blake and our operation,” shared Lacey. “I have grown so much since I started serving with this team.”

Thank you, Blake, for your service to the community and to those who serve alongside you."

As we celebrate our crews during our crews also want to make sure to give credit to our leaders. EMT Sheldon Summers said about our Captain:

"Captain Dana Thrower is not just our captain in the Bay operation but our Leader! She exemplifies the core tenets of leadership. She cares for her team and we feel it. She empowers, empathizes with, and encourages all of us. I've served under many different operations managers, supervisors and bosses, but very rarely do I get the privilege of serving under leaders like Captain Thrower"
All from the heart! ❤️

Thank you Dana and our hardworking crews that put their heart and soul into this operation!
