đź“š Fridays are for READING at OMMS! đź“š

We’re excited to launch a new schoolwide push to help our students become stronger readers, and maybe even discover (or rediscover!) a love for reading along the way. ❤️📖

Beginning this year, we’re dedicating Homeroom every Friday to independent reading. Students will have protected time during the school day to put away the distractions, open a book of their choice, and simply READ.

We're kicking off this initiative with our 🏆September Bookshelf Challenge📚! Students will receive a bookshelf tracking page in their Homeroom class. For every 30 minutes read, students will color 1 book on their bookshelf, which equals 1 point earned toward their weekly total. Reading outside of school counts, too!

We will have 🎉prizes for top readers and homerooms! 🏆 There will be weekly bonus challenges such as reading with a family member and reading in an unusual spot that may require parental initials. Grab a book and read along with your student! We hope that our students find some books that they love and that this builds their reading stamina!

Tomorrow is another edition of Workforce Wednesday! The topic of the day is Accountability!

Accountability is taking ownership and being responsible for your decisions and actions. Molière says, “It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable.” When you make a mistake, own it, learn from it, and do better next time.

Tryouts are September 21 at OM Lanes and all tryout requirements, including being 100% on DragonFly, are due September 11 to Coach Gunnels in A21. Late paperwork will not be accepted!

The Balcony Players are back at OMMS again this year! Our group had an outstanding performance of Aladdin last year, and they are ready to start practice for the production of Beauty & the Beast! There are opportunities for students who want to be on the stage and/or crew!
