"Black Business Month is a reminder that Black business ownership was never just about opening doors for individual entrepreneurs. It was about creating independence, dignity, employment, ownership, and wealth in communities that had too often been denied fair access to all those things," writes Robert Dickerson, executive director of the Birmingham Business Resource Center.

A Good Day at ShadowBrook 🏡✨

Last week, GROWTH hosted a Broker’s Open at ShadowBrook, welcoming several Realtors to connect with the GROWTH team, tour the homes, and discover what this growing community has to offer.

It’s exciting to see ShadowBrook continue to grow and become home for more families. There’s so much more to come! 🏡✨

Economic empowerment starts with ownership.

A.G. Gaston understood that building businesses, creating jobs, and reinvesting in the community were powerful ways to create lasting change. His legacy continues to remind us that entrepreneurship is more than business, it’s a pathway to opportunity, independence, and community growth.

What lessons can we learn from leaders like A.G. Gaston today?

Change doesn’t happen by chance, it happens through action.

Throughout his life, John Lewis showed us that meaningful change requires courage, persistence, and a commitment to speaking up for our communities. His legacy reminds us that advocacy is not a one-time event but an ongoing effort to create opportunities, advance equity, and strengthen communities for future generations.

At BAR, we believe lasting impact happens when communities stay informed, engaged, and empowered to be part of the solutions that shape their future.

What issues are you passionate about advocating for in your community?
