Wrapping up National Black Business Month! ๐Ÿ–ค

As August comes to a close, we want to celebrate the immense contribution of our self-employed Black business owners who are innovating, creating, and driving Birmingham's economy forward!

Often referred to as "non-employer firms," self-employed workersโ€”from graphic designers and hairstylists to professional service providers and gig workersโ€”have a massive impact on our local economy.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ A major driving force behind our economic growth is the Black self-employed community, with over 26,000 workers.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Between 2021 and 2023, aggregate sales for Black self-employed workers increased by more than $20 million!
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Jefferson County sits at the very heart of this success, home to nearly 80% of the metro's Black self-employed workers.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ These entrepreneurs generate more than 72% of Black sales in this sector.

Thank you to all the self-employed workers for your vital role in the Magic City's growth.

We are thrilled to spotlight HUB Worldwide as a 2026 BOLD Awardee! ๐ŸŒŸ

Led by Founder and Executive Director Laura Gilmore, HUB Worldwide is the only non-profit in the state of Alabama that collects unused and surplus medical supplies and equipment to distribute to under-resourced communities.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ By partnering with the City of Birmingham through this BOLD funding, they will further support their long-term partner, Alabama Regional Medical Services (Arms Clinics).
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ They will help Arms Clinics with medical supplies and equipment.
