The MBHO’s 12th Annual 2021 Meadow Brook Yard Sale will be Saturday morning, OCTOBER 16TH 7AM-1PM.

We have had a tremendous response from Meadow Brook residents in the previous 11 years of our Neighborhood Sale. Each year we have had 50+ homeowners participating in the MBHO Sponsored Meadow Brook Neighborhood Yard Sale. We expect similar participation this year.

If you choose to be a part of the neighborhood sale, please read this entire email.

REGISTRATION: Click here to register: https://forms.gle/VWYKxPW9Xc5U3Yy37

Please register today (or in the coming 2 weeks) at the link above or go to MBHO.org if you plan on participating. Your address will be listed on the Neighborhood sale spreadsheet that will be advertised & distributed. This must be done prior to Saturday, October 9th to be included on the final list.

ADVERTISING: The sale will be advertised in the Birmingham News, on AL.com, NextDoor, Local Trading Sites, & Facebook. The Newspaper ad states a ‘neighborhood yard sale’ and points people to the MBHO.org website for all of the locations. Individual addresses will not be included in the newspaper ad.

YOUR OWN MARKETING: Each year the most successful sales tend to be those who have done their own marketing and advertising in addition to the neighborhood’s and those who cluster with neighbors to have multiple sales around them. Advertising on Craigslist or Facebook has proven to be the highest return on your time/$ investment. ‘Like us’ on Facebook and link to the MBHO page. (FB: Meadow Brook Home Owners) Any additional advertising each participant does on their own behalf via the newspaper or posting online will be your own expense & responsibility. ** This is recommended to get the shoppers to your specific home. **

SIGNS: ‘Neighborhood Yard Sale’ signs will be placed at the entrances to the neighborhood to advertise the sales.
Each individual participant will have to create their own sign in their own yard and/or use the recommended balloon. (See below)
The same signs provided by the MBHO will also be posted in high traffic locations of other neighborhoods & areas during this week to try and draw more shoppers Saturday. ** Please remove any of your directional arrows or signs you put up immediately following the sale.

BALLOONS: Similar to previous years, participating homes will be designated with a yellow mylar smiley face balloon. This will show sale uniformity throughout the neighborhood. Balloons will be available for purchase at the Dollar Tree store next to Lowes in the Brook Highland shopping mall.

WORD of MOUTH: To be successful for all participants we will need to draw in a large number of ‘shoppers’ this Saturday. Please spread the word with friends, co-workers, at church, etc. Another approach of word of mouth could be for each participant to email their local friends & family about the sale with a link to mbho.org for additional addresses and details. If you are participating, share the Yard Sale information and/or mbho link on FaceBook, area Trading Sites, NextDoor Neighbor, etc.

Disclaimer: The MBHO will try to help to coordinate the donation pickup but is not ultimately responsible for their schedule, timing, service, etc.

NOTE: Due to the large amount of traffic/shoppers throughout the neighborhood, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department will be notified for additional patrol. We have requested that they have a presence in the neighborhood and provide additional patrol during those hours.

QUESTIONS: If you have additional questions about details of the sale please feel free to email us.

SHELBY COUNTY BEGINS COMPREHENSIVE PLAN PROCESS

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala –In August 2021 the Shelby County Department of Development Services, along with the residents of Shelby County, will begin the process to create Shelby County’s next Comprehensive Plan. The Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham is assisting with this effort which is expected to take approximately 12 to 18 months to complete.

The Comprehensive Plan assists in guiding future growth and development over the next 20 years and addresses issues such as residential development, parks and recreation, land use, transportation, natural resources, economic development, quality of life, and public facilities.

Public participation is essential in the development of the Plan, and an on-line survey has been created to gather critical information from residents and businesses in Shelby County. A dedicated project website is active - www.Planshelbyal.com - with updated Plan information to inform the public on scheduled events/dates, deadlines, and potential activities to be involved in the process. The website serves as the primary link for public involvement and information on the Plan. A direct link to the survey is available on the website.

The Plan will encompass all of Shelby County, which includes 808 square miles and consists of 17 municipalities with an approximate population of 223,000.

“We want to hear from our residents and businesses. The planning process allows everyone an opportunity to participate. We encourage you to get involved; this is your opportunity to guide the future of the County” said County Manager Chad Scroggins.

This site is intended to serve as a central hub for the Shelby County Comprehensive Plan. It is your go-to place to interact with and give input to the Comprehensive Plan as well as stay up-to-date...

How Seasonal Allergies May Be Increasing Your Anxiety

Good news! Pollen can be a trigger for anxiety. According to a German study:

"f you’re one of the millions of Americans who get persistent sneezing, coughing, and congestion this time of year, you might want to pay attention to new research that suggests a link between seasonal allergies and anxiety."

But . . .

"The average age of participants was 61." So, like COVID, seasonal allergies disproportionately affect our elders. Best to just stay young and forgo old age altogether.

New research shows seasonal allergies may lead to increased anxiety.

Help! Does anyone recognize these packages and or this door or rug? A delivery company has delivered my cabinet to a wrong address. They are “ researching” the issue. I live on Meadow Brook Circle...I’m hoping it was at least delivered to somewhere nearby. Any info would be wonderful! I’m expecting that whoever received it has no idea who it was for nor where it came from. 💁‍♀️🙆‍♀️😬🙃

This male German shepherd is wandering around loose, at the moment on Woodridge Lane just off Pinehurst Terrace in Southern Pines. Orange collar, no tags.
We’re first time homeowners in Meadowbrook....no trick or treaters....so sad. How do we fix this next year?
Our cat went missing sometime late yesterday around the 4900 block of Sussex Road. He is old, thin, and mostly blind. He is an indoor kitty, and he is microchipped. Please call if you have found him or see him. He is VERY skittish and does not want to be held. We are broken-hearted. 205-533-4082. Thank you.
I have noticed that there has been a lot of brick mailboxes being knocked over on Meadowbrook Road. Are these due to vandalizing or coincidental accidents? If it is vandalism, has it been reported to Shelby County Sherriff’s office?
FOUND CAT! Has anyone’s lost a grey cat with white feet? Found him in Meadow Brook Road. He is very friendly and sweet.
