STAND UP FOR SOUTH CAROLINA

🔥 South Carolina, week two. We stand behind an iron curtain — where it all began. SCOTUS blessed our gerrymandered maps in Alexander, then turned around and struck down Louisiana's in Callais. Same maps. Different ruling. A million Black voters. Zero national outrage. Wake up. Make noise. Boycott. Stand with SC. ✊🏾

A Major Announcement for South Carolina APRI

The A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI) South Carolina is proud to announce a powerful new addition to our leadership.

President and State Advisor Javar Juarez has officially appointed Shamiya Woodard, Founder and CEO of A Greater Response, as the Chair of the Criminal Justice Committee for the State of South Carolina.

Ms. Woodard brings a bold and necessary vision to this role—one rooted in justice, advocacy, and real solutions for families impacted by the criminal justice system. Her leadership will help drive critical work across our state, including bail reform awareness, legal access, youth prevention, and reentry support.

This is more than an appointment.
This is a commitment.

A commitment to addressing systemic inequities.
A commitment to empowering communities.
A commitment to continuing the legacy of Asa Philip Randolph through action.

South Carolina APRI is on the move—and with leaders like Shamiya Woodard stepping forward, the future of justice and equity in our state is stronger than ever.

Please join us in congratulating Chair Woodard as we continue building power, protecting workers, and advancing civil rights across South Carolina.

And just like that, the 2026 APRI Southern Region Conference in Birmingham, Alabama has come to a close.

What an extraordinary weekend it has been.

Congratulations to all of our award recipients, and to our entire Southern Region family—our representatives, associate sponsors, and friends—for showing up fully and making this experience unforgettable. We laughed, we reflected, we learned, and most importantly, we lifted one another up in the ongoing work.

This is the work. Advancing the labor movement. Advancing civil rights. Doing the heavy lifting in our communities. Standing together in unity with strength, courage, and solidarity as we continue to educate, organize, and mobilize.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, and special appreciation to the city of Birmingham, Alabama, and the Sheraton for their outstanding hospitality.

What an amazing time. We will see you next year.
