BFRS Engine 21, along with Engines 15 and 7 frequently visited Dr. Ora Mae Parker to give assistance. Dr. Parker was such a delight to be around, the firefighters sometimes came to visit Dr. Parker just to talk. Captain Dean, the station captain of Fire Station 21, was told by family members of Dr. Parker, that she was turning 104 on today. Captain Dean along with his crew members decided to organize a birthday parade and give her 2 dozen roses along with a custom made station 21 blanket. On today many community members took part in the parade and gave gifts. City Council Member Smitherman of district 6, presented Dr. Parker with a proclamation from the city of Birmingham for her outstanding service to the community. BFRS are not just guest working in Birmingham, we live in the communities in which we serve.
