Last week Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service Recruits participated in hose and stream week.

Recruits learned how to move charged hose lines up stairs and around corners as they would need to in a house. They also learned how to handle different size hoselines that BFRS carries on the apparatus, and how to load hose back on the engines and trucks.

Whether itโ€™s an automobile fire, commercial fire or a house fire, our recruits will be prepared when they enter the field to properly use a water hose to extinguish a fire.

We are Excellence Through Service!

On Friday our Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service Recruits participated in a team building search and rescue training to find a nut and bolt and to assemble it.

Being a firefighter requires you to know how to search a structure and rescue someone who may be trapped.

Some structures with fire have low visibility and you have to rely on your sense of touch and hearing and trusting in your team to efficiently complete the rescue.

Here at Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service we train to be the best of the best!

We are Excellence Through Service!

Today Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service responded to a house fire at the 500 block of Avenue U.

As we enter National Fire Prevention Week, we encourage all citizens to have a working smoke detector and have a fire escape plan for your home.

This fire was at a vacant home. It takes only minutes for a small fire to turn into a major fire like this one.

The best way that we can protect the Citizens of Birmingham is by educating them on fire prevention methods.

Remember that โ€œCooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention.โ€

As a reminder:
The weather in Birmingham will once again drop to record lows. During low temperatures, next to cooking fires, heaters account for the highest number of structure fires in the city.
Remember to give space heaters Space.
Also unplug heaters when you are away.
Make sure you have working smoke alarms in your home.
We would like to thank our busiest companies for their hard work.
The use of fireworks are illegal in the city of Birmingham. We want everyone to be safe. During the 4th of July holiday we experienced a large amount of injuries due to fireworks. Please be safe and have a Happy New Year.
On behalf of our Chief Cory Moon, we would like to wish everyone a very safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
