Students at Huffman and Jackson-Olin high will benefit from School to Skill program
The National Academy Foundation (NAF) is a leader in the movement to prepare young people for college and career success.
Huffman High School has embarked on a new journey that will enhance opportunities for the students participating in Architecture and Construction Career Technical Cluster. For nearly 30 years, NAF has refined a proven educational model which includes industry-focused curricula, work-based learning experiences, and business partner expertise from four themes: Finance, Hospitality & Tourism, Informa
tion Technology, and Engineering. In the Architecture and Construction cluster, students choose one of three pathways--Design and Preconstruction, Construction, or Maintenance and Operations. Coursework leads to careers in drafting design; welding; electrical technology; heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR); carpentry; cabinetmaking; masonry; plumbing; and pipefitting. Course content includes significant technical depth and incorporates engineering concepts and terminology. Students in Grades 9-12 are required to take a foundation course before entering a pathway in this cluster. NAF fosters partnerships between the business and education communities to provide opportunities to underserved students. NAF's 90% graduation rate and network of dedicated educators, business partners, and students are testament to the effectiveness of this model.
