CASA of Cochise County

CASA of Cochise County CASA volunteers - Court Appointed Special Advocates - speak up for the best interests of abused and neglected children in courts and communities.

A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteer is a trained citizen who is appointed by a judge to represent the best interests of a child in court. Most of the children are victims of abuse and neglect, and have been removed from their homes. Children helpd by CASA Volunteers include those for whom placement is being determined in juvenile court. A CASA Volunteer provides a judge wtih carefu

lly researched background details about the child to help the court make a sound decision about the child's future. The CASA Volunteer must determine if the best interest of the child is staying with their parents or guardians, being placed in foster care, or being freed for permanent adoption. The CASA makes a recommendation on placement to the judge and follows through on the case until it is permanently resolved.

Can you believe CASA of Arizona has been around for 40 years?

Our local program wasn’t too far behind - we will be celebrating our 36th anniversary next month!

🌟 Celebrating 40 Years of Advocacy for Arizona’s Children 🌟

For four decades, CASA of Arizona has been pairing trained volunteer advocates with children in foster care — giving them a voice in court and helping them find safe, permanent homes.

Today, over 900 CASA volunteers are making a difference for 1,200 children across all 15 Arizona counties. But more advocates are needed.

If you’re 21 or older, can pass a background check, and have a heart for helping children, you can be part of this life-changing work.

Last Thursday, we celebrated our amazing CASA volunteers at our Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner / 35th Anniversary Celebration. This event was sponsored by the Cochise County Council for CASA, Inc.

Between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024, our CASA volunteers donated 2,600+ hours, drove 33,000+ miles, and filed 96 court reports.

As of September 30, 2024, we have 36 CASA volunteers in Cochise County. Although several of them are on breaks between cases, there are still 57 youth involved in the dependency system from Cochise County who have the benefit of having a CASA volunteer appointed to represent them.

The CASA volunteers from Cochise County are the best in the state - probably even the nation! We aren’t at all biased… if you happen to know one of our amazing CASA volunteers, be sure to remind them just how special they are!
