🇺🇸Inside Inyo Probation🇺🇸
A Monthly Feature Of The People Who Make It Work.

For the month of May we are pleased to feature Probation Specialist, Jesus Garcia. Mr. Garcia has been a member of the Inyo Probation team for 2 years and 4 months.
He was asked to share some professional insight by answering the following:
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in probation or community corrections?
A: “I wanted a career where I could make a positive impact on people’s lives and help guide them toward better choices. Although I interact with adults as well, most of my work is with juveniles, which gives me the opportunity to support, mentor, and encourage young people while helping strengthen the community. I’ve always enjoyed connecting with people and building positive relationships.”

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A: “The part I enjoy most is helping people improve and seeing positive changes over time. I also appreciate working with a team that cares about the community and supports one another.”

Q: What’s one accomplishment or case of success you’re especially proud of?
A: “One accomplishment I’m proud of is being able to be part of an organization that allows me to generate positive impacts on adolescents.”

Q: What do you think people often misunderstand about probation work?
A: “I think many people misunderstand probation work and assume it is only about getting people in trouble or enforcing punishment. In reality, probation is also about providing guidance, support, programs, and resources that can positively impact individuals’ lives. A big part of the job is helping people make better choices, build healthier habits, and create stronger connections within the community.”

Q: What’s one skill or quality that helps you succeed in your role?
A: “Strong communication skills help me succeed in my role. Being able to listen, stay calm, and speak to people in a meaningful and respectful manner makes a big difference in building trust and positive relationships.”

💬 Mr. Garcia was asked to share a little about his personal side, reflection and motivation:

Q: Where are you originally from, and what brought you to Inyo County?
A: “I’m originally from Mexico, and I came to Inyo County because I had family living here for many years. Over time, it became a place I truly call home, and I’ve enjoyed being part of such an amazing community.”

Q: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
A: “I enjoy traveling, fishing, spending time with family, and doing things that help me recharge outside of work.”

Q: What does “making a difference” mean to you in your role?
A: “In my role, “making a difference” means helping people make positive choices, supporting community safety, and being someone others can rely on during difficult times.”

Q: Who has been a mentor or positive influence in your career?
A: “I’ve been lucky to learn from supervisors, coworkers, and family members who have shown me the importance of integrity, hard work, and treating people fairly.”

Q: What advice would you give to someone starting their career in the field of probation?
A: “Some advice I would give to someone starting their career in probation is to be patient, stay professional, and always treat people with respect because this career can be challenging, but it’s also rewarding when you focus on helping others and making a positive impact on the community.”
