This is an ecologically sensitive, culturally significant place. It deserves better than a gold mine.

This time, the public isn’t being asked for input, but there IS time to make your voice heard.

On Monday, May 18th, 2026, Canadian company, K2 Gold, officially began its recently approved 2nd phase of gold exploration on Conglomerate Mesa. Conglomerate Mesa is the traditional homeland of the Lone Pine Paiute Shoshone and Timbisha Shoshone Tribal Nations, both of whom oppose mining on Conglomerate Mesa. 11 tribes were consulted about the project, and their view was that K2 Gold’s proposed mining activities would cause permanent adverse impacts on Conglomerate Mesa.

Over 14,000 people submitted comments to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), voicing their concerns and opposition. As a result of this public input, the BLM is requiring K2 Gold to access Conglomerate Mesa by helicopter only, to reduce the number of drill sites, and to build timber-frame pads to minimize ground disturbance. Despite these changes, the project’s impact remains high, with 6 months of 24/7 drilling, 555 helicopter flights from Lone Pine Airport, and over 10,000 gallons of water usage. In addition, K2 Gold has already announced plans for a 3rd phase of exploration.

Local conservation groups and citizens are carefully monitoring all activities related to K2 Gold’s exploration project and are dedicated to protecting this desert gem.

It’s time to get PROACTIVE. 📢

🙅 In the past, Steve Pearce has sought to reduce, and even outright abolish many of the national monuments he now presides over as the Bureau of Land Management Director. That includes one that’s currently in the crosshairs: Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

🏛️ Sen. Mike Lee and Rep. Celeste Maloy are attempting to use an obscure law called the Congressional Review Act to not only put Grand Staircase-Escalante’s locally-developed management plan at risk, but that of every national monument across the United States.

😡 With Pearce now heading the BLM, passage of Lee and Maloy’s resolution (H.J. Res. 151) would further expose Grand Staircase and all of our national monuments to the desires of this public lands villain.

📲 Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121

✍🏻 Sample Script to Make Your Own:
Hi, my name is [NAME], and I’m a constituent calling from [CITY/ZIP CODE]. I’m calling to urge Representative [NAME] to oppose H.J. Res. 151 and stand up for Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and all National Monuments.

Our new BLM director, Steve Pearce, has a history of seeking to reduce and even outright abolish many of the National Monuments he now presides over, including Grand Staircase-Escalante. H.J. Resolution 151 would put Grand Staircase in his crosshairs

This isn’t just an attack on one monument in Utah. If this resolution passes, Congress gains a new tool to gut management plans for every National Monument in the country, including the 20 here in California. With Pearce now heading the BLM, the stakes couldn’t be higher. I’m urging Representative [NAME] to oppose H.J. Res. 151 and refuse to let an obscure procedural maneuver permanently strip protections from America’s most treasured public lands.

KORE Mining has returned against the wishes of Mammoth Lakes.

At a Mammoth Lakes Town council meeting, we learned that KORE Mining resubmitted a proposal to the Inyo National Forest for exploratory drilling at the Hot Creek Geologic Site.

Due to the current administration’s dismantling of environmental protections and the safeguards communities have against mining companies, the process is different than last time and the public is not being asked for input.

Again… THE PUBLIC IS NOT BEING ASKED FOR INPUT.

We beat them before. Now, it’s time to band together to protect Hot Creek and our local communities, and beat them again.

Doug Burgum, Secretary of the Interior and the person in charge of over 500 million acres of your public lands, can’t get himself to call DOGE cuts what they actually are.

He was in front of Congress last week defending a budget that would slash the Department of the Interior’s funding by $2.3 billion and gift Trump a $10 billion “beautification” fund for his D.C. vanity projects.

At the hearing, Senator Heinrich asked Burgum directly why he is continuing to offer buyouts and deferred resignations after 20% of Interior’s staff has already been pushed out.

Burgum called them DOGE “things”. The people who lost their jobs know exactly what to call them. 👀
