A New Website—and a Better Licensing Experience—Is on the Way!

The North Dakota State Board of Cosmetology launched its new public website today. This is the first step in our transition to a new online licensing system, which will launch September 1.

Here’s what you need to know:

🔹 Today only: While we complete the website transition, the Board office is unable to process applications or print licenses.

🔹 Through August 31: Links to the licensing portal on the new website will remain disabled. If you need an application or form during this time, please call the Board office or email [email protected]

🔹 Beginning September 1: Licensees will be able to complete applications and submit payments directly through the new online portal.

We appreciate your patience during this transition and look forward to providing a simpler, more convenient licensing experience! Our website is still a work in progress. We will continue adding information, resources, and helpful guidance in the weeks ahead.

Did you know? Big changes took effect in 2026.

The “medical director exemption” for esthetics is no longer in place.

That means:
➡️ All licensees must work in a licensed establishment
➡️ Services must stay within scope of practice
➡️ Advanced procedures require proper licensing

And—medispas employing our licensees must now be licensed with the North Dakota State Board of Cosmetology.

This ensures consistency, safety, and accountability across the industry.
