Native American Training Institute

Native American Training Institute Training and programs that respect culture and changes how people show up for Indigenous children and families. Learn more at our website. But here's the thing.

The Native American Training Institute delivers training and curriculum packages built for people and organizations working with Native American children and families. This is work that matters. The kind that changes lives. Right now we're training in foster parenting, wraparound services (that includes community training, Care Coordinator training, and WRIT, QEW training), youth relationship bui

lding, the Indian Child Welfare Act, cultural capacity, and historical trauma. We have also developed curricula ready to go for foster parenting and youth relationship building. We put on local and national workshops throughout the year. Our North Dakota Indian Child Welfare Act conference happens every spring. And we host our monthly ICWA Hour Zoom sessions where people can connect, learn, and share. These are free and open to anyone who cares about Native children. We also do specialized training when you need it. Strategic planning. Parenting programs. Program planning. If you're working to build stronger systems for Native families, we can help you figure it out. This is about more than training. It's about creating space where professionals understand the communities they serve. Where culture isn't an afterthought. Where the unique needs of Indigenous children actually drive the work.

The Path Behind Us. The Road Ahead.

πŸ™

Three days. One conference. In the lands where the NuÉta, Hidatsa, and Sahnish Nations have always known what family means.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

This morning Devon Headdress stood up and continued his story from last year's conference. Elder relatives, his wife and baby son were there. He used to work here at NATI as an ICWA Family Preservationist. Now he's standing in front of the room telling people what it means to do this work. What it costs. What it heals.

🎀

We had presenters come from all over. They brought what they know. They brought what they've seen work. They brought the old ways mixed in with what we need right now.

πŸ’ͺ

Every person at the conference showed up for Native kids who need us to show up. That's the work. That's all of it.

πŸŒ…

Twenty-five years of this conference. Twenty-five years of people choosing to gather and choose this work again. The road ahead is still long. We know that.

But we're walking it together.

🌾

Thank you for being here to make space for the 25 years behind us and push a path forward into the next 25 years

Relatives!

Our upcoming ICWA Qualified Expert Witness Training creates space for people to learn how ICWA shapes the lives of Native children and their families. Over three days, participants settle into conversations that move at a comfortable pace and help them see how their voice can support a child in moments that matter.
🌾 β€’ πŸ”Ή β€’ 🌾
The sessions are patient and simple by design. People learn how to listen closely, how to understand what a court needs to hear, and how cultural knowledge can help guide decisions toward care and connection. The room stays open for questions, reflection, and steady learning.
🌿 β€’ πŸ”Έ β€’ 🌿
By the end, participants carry a clearer sense of how to show up for families with respect. The training helps people feel ready to step into this work with a calm understanding of what the role asks and why it is important.

Relatives! WE NEED YOUR HELP
❀️❀️❀️
Some work stays with a community long after the day is done. This is that kind of work. NATI is keeping the ICWA Family Preservationist position open until we find someone who can help carry the stories and strengths of Native families forward.
🌿🌿🌿
This role supports children at moments that shape a lifetime. It helps families hold tight to culture, language, and identity. It keeps the next generation connected to who they are and where they come from. That is the heart of ICWA. Indigenous preference is given.
πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯
If you know someone who walks gently with families, listens with patience, and understands how culture steadies a child’s world, please share this with them. They may be the person a family needs
❀️
Applicants can send a resume, cover letter, transcripts, Certificate of Indian Blood or Tribal ID, and three letters of recommendation or three references with a phone number or email to:

This role supports families with care and skill. It calls for good listeners, patient problem solvers, and people who understand the strength that culture brings to a child’s life.
