Governor Langer was the 17th and 21st governor of North Dakota. During his first term (1933-1934) he was removed from office in July of 1934 after being charged with soliciting money from state employees. He later returned for another term 1937-1939.

The Former Governors' Mansion has two sets of stairs. One is the main set of stairs that governors and their guests would have used.
The other is the servant stairs located in the kitchen. These stairs would go directly to the maid's rooms. Not every governor had maids; sometimes they were used for children. Governor Langer was known to use the backstairs to avoid guests after a long day at the Capitol.
Thanks to our absolutely amazing site supervisor, you can now go up and down these stairs.
Try them out the next time you visit the mansion. Just a warning: they are steep!

“One piece of candy can take you back to a familiar place…”

Grandmas and moms always have the best purse candy. We have a candy jar at the mansion to share in those sweet memories.

Next time you’re here, take a sweet treat and remember those yesteryears.

We are open 9-5 every day. We also have air conditioning to escape the heat.
