THANK YOU doesn’t seem like enough. The last 10 days have been nothing short of AMAZING!
The word was, our neighbors in Shiocton were in need, and you all showed up in a very BIG way!
First the evacuation efforts. MANY departments assisted with these efforts going door to door through flooded streets to ensure the residents were safe, and able to evacuate their homes.
Next the sandbagging. Roughly 1 million pounds of sand was bagged into ~60,000 bags and deployed into Shiocton and surrounding areas in a matter of days to protect residents and their homes from rising waters! Volunteers came from many neighboring communities armed with shovels, gloves and trailers ready to work!
The donations followed. We opened our doors to help those in need and thanks to all of YOU, we collected truckloads of cleaning and hygiene supplies, hundreds of fans and shop vacs, pallet after pallet of water and paper towel, piles of laundry detergent and bleach and SO much more at the Black Creek Fire Station. Delivery trucks showed up multiple times a day with more boxes and pallets than we could count! You all rallied together to completely FILL our fire station not only with donations for those in need, but with food for our volunteers and HOPE for the future!
Day after day we unboxed and sorted, stacked and organized, planned and prepared. We worried if people would come, if we’d have sufficient supplies, if there would be enough help, if things would go smoothly. As we worked, supplies kept coming, monetary donations rolled in. The phone kept ringing, messages popped up; more people wanting to help!
Finally the time came to fill the vehicles and show our neighbors just what being part of this community really means! Over the course of two days we completely PACKED 287 vehicles with supplies and LOVE! We accumulated more than 1,100 volunteer hours throughout the 10 days, to make this possible.
We reached the end of the distribution process, bodies tired and sore; hearts OVERFLOWING! Full of hope, sense of community, and love for the people in our small communities! On Saturday the remaining supplies were delivered to Shiocton. During the delivery we witnessed the community coming together yet again as MANY volunteers aided in the first steps of the clean up process!!
We have SO many people to thank for their time, efforts, donations, food, kind words and support! We are proud to have worked alongside ALL of you to support our neighbors in a time of need!
To ANYONE who helped in ANY way, big or small, we saw you! We appreciate you, we applaud you!!
To businesses & organizations, big and small, who showed their support in any way possible, we could not have done this without YOU!! **If we missed you on the list, we sincerely apologize!! Please list in the comments so we can recognize you!!**
