This time of year, we frequently hear from community members and parents who are looking for ways to give their time or connect their families to volunteer opportunities. We've put together a calendar with an idea for ways people can give their time every day of the month. Some ideas are for events on specific days. Others just acts of kindness to help a neighbor. Take a look at the full calendar on our volunteer website www.volunteergreatfalls.org.

We are excited to advance our early education work thanks to this ARPA grant. Lack of quality affordable childcare impacts whether kids succeed in school. We also see the impact in our financial stability work as parents struggle to balance work and the growing expense of childcare.

City Commissioners unanimously approved $2.88 million in community ARPA grants during their Dec. 6 meeting. One person spoke in general opposition of the city’s use of federal COVID relief fu…

In 2010, United Way and Great Falls Public Schools began partnering on a communityw-wide education initiative aimed at improving the on-time graduation rates. The Graduation Matters Initiative became a statewide effort that saw amazing local success -- cutting the number of dropouts in half.
In the years since, the initiative has evolved to include dozens of stakeholders and employs a cradle-to-career strategy. Now we're embarking on a renewed effort to focus on student success and improving education outcomes for students of all ages, culminating in improved graduation numbers.
Any community initiative needs to include the community's voice. So now we need to hear from you (and your neighbors and your children.)
Please spend a few minutes taking this quick survey and share your thoughts on the new name for Great Falls' education initiative. We are excited to move forward with this great and important work.

If you have a chance to visit the United Way office (1900 32nd Ave. NE in the Loenbro Building) you'll see this amazing piece of art.

The trio of metal butterflies are the work of Paul Hogan, industrial technology teacher at C.M. Russell High School, and Camp Francis participants.

Camp Francis is a Benefis Peace Hospice program for children who have lost a loved one. When COVID-19 turned the 2020 camp into a virtual one, participants received "camp in a box," including metal puzzle pieces to decorate and return to fill in butterfly wings.

In 2021, campers added their artwork to the wings as they celebrated returning to in-person gatherings and the camp theme “Wings of Hope.”

The unique collaborative art project has since traveled to different Benefis Health System departments and to Great Falls schools as a reminder of the hope of healing from grief and pain.

Thanks to generous donors to Benefis Foundation, Peace Hospice offers support to grieving children and teens across northcentral Montana through support groups, one-on-one visits, gatherings, a school support group, holiday gatherings, and more.

To learn more about Benefis Peace Hospice Child Bereavement Program services and Camp Francis, visit Benefis.org/CampFrancis.

The best line in the nomination is that Lacey Hallett takes her job title of Community Impact Coordinator literally -- she brings so many people to the table and keeps them focused on impacting our community for the better. Congrats on the much deserved recognition we're proud to have you on the team!

It is an honor for us to recognize Lacey Hallett as our Alliance for Youth Volunteer of the Month for October 2022.

Lacey has been an active member of the Cascade County Substance Abuse Prevention Alliance (SAPA) for more than eight years. Lacey represents United Way of Cascade County at the SAPA table and she takes her job title of Community Impact Coordinator quite literally.

Lacey continues to be a great community partner, who commits and sticks with it. She's dependable, reliable and crazy good at event planning. Her ability to multitask is unmatched, while her caring heart sets her apart.

Lacey, thank you for all you do every day in contributing to the overall health and well-being of our community. You make Great Falls and Cascade County a better place to live.

Looking for some volunteer opportunities during this season of giving? Check out link below for some wonderful ideas including how you can volunteer as a Red Cross blood donor ambassador and help out at blood drives or donate blood yourself.

A huge thank you to the United Way of Cascade County for once again making Red Cross part of this list.
"Being a foster Grandmother means I can enlighten a child's life and perhaps give him something he doesn't have, and perhaps he can have a totally fun filled day with love while he's at school," said Genia McElroy, a foster grandma.

She is just one of 25 foster grandparents that go to classrooms around Great Falls and give teachers a helping hand and students a little extra love and attention.

A huge thank you to United Way of Cascade County for working with me to help tell this story! 😊

Now we can share our little secret! We had some awards to give out to Groupe ADF Inc for being Business of the Quarter for all of their support, for serving in our committees, and bringing an excellent experience for the kids that attended WoW! We also gave the Ambassador of the Quarter award to Mike Parcel from Montana Department of Labor & Industry for being an incredible ambassador ready to be at any ribbon cutting or Chamber event and ready to volunteer. Then we had a special unannounced "Appreciation Award" for Lacey Hallett from United Way of Cascade County for all of her service to the Chamber and to Central Montana Works! as the Lead Coordinator of our WoW! 2022 event! Thanks to everyone who came to our Luncheon! The room was packed, the food was delicious, and the future is bright because Great Falls is full of people just like you!
FALLS MEETS FALLS...We welcomed a dynamic group of students & teachers from Columbia Falls High School this morning to meet with some of our own students & teachers from Great Falls Public Schools to talk about youth emotional and mental wellbeing. Columbia Falls has a long established youth peer mentoring program and they came all the way to Great Falls to share about their program with our newly established peer mentoring group students at Great Falls High School, CMR High School & Paris Gibson Education Center.

It was an awesome day here at Alliance for Youth to see youth working with other youth to address one of the biggest concerns youth, schools, parents and communities have...youth emotional & mental wellbeing.

Thanks for everything, Columbia Falls! Safe travels home!

“Hey kids, who wants to see the bones of a building?!”

Today we proudly introduced our work in mechanical design, plumbing, HVAC, and excavation to approx. 1,600 middle and high school students at the Great Falls Area Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural Worlds of Work - Great Falls Career Expo! Students were given the chance to explore a 3D model of the impressive and newly constructed Bozeman Public Safety Center via Revit Mechanical Design software. This was a first time opportunity for most to the see the raw beauty of commercial HVAC & plumbing in 3D! And for many, today was the first time they had been introduced to HVAC or plumbing. (Who knew all that stuff was in the ceiling, behind the walls and under foot! 😊) This led to many questions about mechanical design, collaboration with other trades, apprenticeships, journeyman / master plumbers, and journeyman sheet metal workers.

“Can we drive the mini excavator?!” We got this question more times than we can count! But as you can see they were happy to have had the chance to sit in the drivers seat, check out the controls, wear a hard hat, and honk the horn. They asked many great questions such as; “How do you know how deep the hole has to be?” “How do you know where you can dig?” “Does the GPS system actually drive the machine for you?” And what ended up being the most important career deciding factor for some, “Does it have air conditioning?”

Thank you to Central Montana Works! A Great Falls Chamber initiative, and United Way of Cascade County for bringing this fresh approach to career fairs to Great Falls; and to University of Providence and Great Falls College MSU for hosting this impactful event!

And a very special thank you to our Mechanical Design team in Bozeman and to our Great Falls Shop and Civil team!
