May is Wildfire Awareness Month. Is your home fire ready?

Simple actions can make a big difference. Addressing Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) 1 - the first five feet around the home - can prevent flames from coming in direct contact with your home.

- Remove leaves and needles from gutters, roof, and decks.
- Remove all combustible materials (furniture, wood piles, branches, junipers, etc.).
- Screen attic, eaves, roof, and foundation vents with 1/8 inch metal mesh.
- Cut grass short or consider adding hardscape (such as pavers or gravel) around the home.
- Post your house number in reflective non-combustible material for emergency responders.

Contact Timberline Fire Protection District or High Country Auxiliary to obtain a reflective address sign.
