Incident Follow-Up

The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office and Office of Emergency Management continue to work with the County, U.S. Army, and appropriate state and federal resources following yesterday’s incident, which occurred on U.S. Forest Service land.
During the response, a fuel leak was identified and mitigated. Responsibility for the incident site transitioned to the military later that day.

We are aware of community concerns regarding potential environmental impacts and are working with the appropriate resources regarding any assessment or testing that may be necessary. At this time, we have not received information from public health officials advising of risk to our residents. The Sheriff’s Office and OEM will continue to assist the county, state, federal, and military partners with efforts related to site cleanup and the safety of our surrounding community.

We appreciate our community’s patience as this work continues. We will provide additional updates as information becomes available. - GCSO

A Flood Watch is in effect for portions of the northeast and east central Colorado plains, Palmer Divide, and southern Front Range foothills from 2 pm to 10 pm today. Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop over the area this afternoon and evening. Heavy rainfall rates of 1–2" in 30 minutes, on top of yesterday's rainfall, may lead to localized flash flooding.

Remember to never drive on flooded roads. Turn Around Don't Drown!

🚌 Yesterday It Was Us…Today It’s Them 🎒

Do you remember walking to school with your friends, waiting at the bus stop, or heading out the door in that brand-new first-day-of-school outfit?
Those school-day memories seem to pass by far too quickly. As a new school year begins, our Gilpin County kids are making those same memories.
They’re walking along our roads, waiting for buses, crossing streets, and heading back to class.
The difference is, now, we’re the ones behind the wheel.

Please slow down, put the distractions away, watch for children crossing, and STOP for school buses with flashing red lights. 🛑🚌
A few extra seconds of patience can help make sure every child gets to school safely, and gets the chance to grow up and someday say, “I was one of those kids once too”

💙 A friendly back-to-school reminder from the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office. 🚓
