We tripled up on tradition at the August 26 City Council meeting as three of our newest team members took their turn at the bell:

Happy National Dog Day from some of Black Hawk’s OG pups. 🐾

Long before dogs had Instagram accounts, they were already stealing the spotlight in Black Hawk.

From hanging with the Black Hawk Fire Department, to keeping an eye on the horses at the Livery & Feed Stable, to patiently waiting for their humans at the Post Office, these four-legged locals found their way into Black Hawk history. 🐕📸

The Black Hawk 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is more than a physical challenge. It is a solemn gathering of remembrance, gratitude, and support as participants climb to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Thanks to the generosity of the Ameristar Black Hawk, registration proceeds directly support
programs provided by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to fire service survivors and the families of fallen firefighters.

Climb with us. Remember with us. Support those who continue to carry the loss.

🔔 Meet our Bell Ringer!

This week's Black Hawk City Council Bell Ringer was Joe Marr, President of the Gilpin County School Board.

Joe joined us at Wednesday's City Council meeting to accept Fill the Bus donations on behalf of Gilpin County students, made possible through the generosity of the City of Black Hawk and the GOLD District.

When asked what he appreciates most about Black Hawk, Joe shared:
"The IGA (Intergovernmental Agreement) between the school district and the City."

Thank you, Joe, for joining us and for your continued partnership in supporting Gilpin County students and our community.

Registration is open for the 18th Annual Black Hawk 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. You do not need to be a firefighter to climb. You only need a heart willing to remember.

First responders, community members, families, friends, casino employees, and visitors are invited to participate in the 18th Annual Black Hawk 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.

Participants may climb in uniform, bunker gear, SCBA, or workout clothes. Completing all four laps is not required. This event is not a competition — it is an opportunity to honor the fallen at your own pace and within your personal limits.

When: Friday, September 11, 2026
Time: Check-in begins at 9:00 a.m.
Where: Ameristar Black Hawk

Every step honors a hero. During the Black Hawk 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, participants
symbolically complete the heroic journey of the first responders who gave their lives while
trying to save others on September 11, 2001.

Their photographs and names will line the Ameristar hotel stairwells as participants climb
116 floors in their memory.

This is not a race. It is an act of remembrance.

September 11, 2026, marks 25 years since a day that forever changed our nation.

We remember the lives that were taken. We remember the families who never welcomed their loved ones home. We remember the first responders who moved toward danger with courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to save others.

Though decades have passed, their sacrifice has not faded from our hearts. Please join us at the Richman Beer Garden at 9:30 a.m. as we gather for an opening ceremony and moment of silence. At 9:45 a.m., the climb will begin inside the Ameristar hotel tower.
