Educational Enrichment Fund

Educational Enrichment Fund HOW DID THE EEF BEGIN? The idea for this fund originated in 2005 from a long-time resident of Black River Falls, Al Lahmayer, who recognized this need.

The purpose of the Educational Enrichment Fund (EEF) is to provide funds for programs and extracurricular activities within the Black River Falls School District that are not able to be funded through the district's budget. He and his wife Jeanette were willing to donate $25,000 to a fund to help schools and he presented the idea to the Black River Falls High School alumni Association. From this,

a group of interested alumni, educators and friends of the Black river Falls School district formed an EEF Committee. They researched the possibility of starting a fund and began a fund-raising campaign targeted to Black River Falls High School Alumni. Soon, a Board of Trustees was formed and a designated fund was established through the Black River Falls Area Foundation with a goal to raise $400,000. Over $200,00 was raised from the initial fun-raising campaign and grants have been awarded. An additional $200,000 is needed to reach the goal, which would substantially increase the number of grants and dollar amounts awarded to satisfy more needs. HOW ARE THE FUNDS ADMINISTERED AND DISBURSED? Only the earnings on the principal are available for disbursement each year through grant requests from the schools. The EEF Board of Trustees oversees the fund and annually reviews grant requests and makes recomendations to the Black River Falls Area Foundation trustees for funding. Grant applications are evaluated with consideration to the request of the donors, other resources available to meet the educational need, the number of students served, and past support provided by the EEF. Final approval comes from the Black River Falls Area Foundation Board of Trustees.

In response to the Grant Awards, Dr. Severson, Superintendent of Schools for the School District of Black River Falls spoke about the benefits of the Education Enrichment Fund:

“The Educational Enrichment Fund is the epitome of what community support for education looks like! This group of volunteers commit their time to finding ways to elevate the experiences for our students throughout the District. They raise funds and facilitate a grant process that gives opportunities for staff to think of some of the "nice to have" items as opposed to being limited by the "must have" items from our budget. I appreciate the staff's creativity in some of the initiatives that have come out of this grant process, and am so appreciative of the individuals that volunteer to serve with the EEF! The old adage that talks about it taking a village couldn't be more true. We are grateful for this village of support for public education!”

The EEF welcomes donations to continue its support of educators and students in the BRF school district. For more information, please visit https://www.brfareafoundation.org/brf-education-enrichment-fund/
