April 19th-25th is National Volunteer Appreciation week! We are appreciative of our volunteers all year long, but especially with all that is going on in the world. Volunteers brighten the days of so many and help provide essential services to our community.
Our volunteer luncheon was planned for Monday, April 20th, and the theme we selected in January was Volunteers - The Essential Piece of the Puzzle. While we can't get together right now, we created a video to share of some of our past events. As you can see, it is a very fun day! We will be holding this years at a later date. Thank you to all of of our amazing volunteers! Blessings and Stay Well!

Time for a #BuddyCheck reminder. It is so important to reach out to fellow veterans and others in our veterans community, especially in these times of #socialdistancing. Each and every one of us can help by calling or sending a text or an email to check on a friend who may be struggling. #WisVets

As we share holiday posts this month, it is important to remember those who did not make it home to celebrate the season. Today we share this necktie and garter box set from the Elmer Miller collection. Miller, a Door County native, served as a Sergeant in the 22nd Tank Battalion 11th Armored Division during World War II. The box set was a Christmas gift sent overseas to Miller by his wife Lila. Sadly, Miller was killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge, and this gift was returned to his wife. The collection also contains letters that Lila wrote to Elmer, that were returned after of his death. These letters describe her daily life while raising their daughter Maryanne, getting ready for Christmas, and expressing concern that she has not received a letter from him in a while.
