**STRUCTURE FIRE**
At approximately 11 a.m. this morning, your Blackfoot Fire Department was dispatched to the 200 N area of 400 W for report of a shop on fire with a nearby home threatened. Engine 3 arrived on scene within 7 minutes and reported a fully involved structure. An attack line was pulled and the fire was knocked down 8 minutes later. Additional arriving units assisted with fire attack, water supply, and rehab.
Responding units were E-3, E-2, E-1, and ambulance 2. We'd like to give a huge thank you and shoutout to our dedicated volunteers and off-duty members. Any time there is a working structure fire dispatch, it requires all on-duty crews to manage. This causes a "page in" where an alert is sent to off-duty and volunteer members who then respond to the station to provide coverage.
While crews operated at this fire, an ambulance call was dispatched and responded to by paged in personnel. Our ambulance for rehab on scene was also staffed by paged in personnel.
Without the willingness of these members to interrupt their lives and drop what they are doing on their days off, there would be severe gaps in coverage of fire and EMS. As always, we are proud to serve the citizens of Blackfoot and Bingham County!

We're back! We apologize for the long silence but we are up and running again and will hopefully be posting more now. Our crews haven't had very many opportunities to take pictures this year so this post serves as our monthly call volume report for January and February.

January-Your Blackfoot Fire Department responded to 233 calls for service in the month. Due to warm weather and dry roads, we saw a significant decrease overall in call volume.

February-Your Blackfoot Fire Department responded to 236 calls for service in the month of February, a huge increase of 3 calls! Again thanks to dry roads and calm weather, the call numbers stayed reduced.

March has been a crazy month so far, we look forward to sharing the highlights with the community. As the weather warms up and dries out, stay safe and drive careful with all the extra summer traffic. We are proud to serve the citizens of Blackfoot and Bingham County!

Your Blackfoot Fire Department responded to 3,395 calls for service in the year 2025. Among these calls were 30 structure fires, 2,640 EMS calls, 21 vehicle fires, and many other brush fires, false alarms, traffic accidents, and public services.
This represents nearly a 200 call increase from last year, indicating a fact we all know: Blackfoot is growing. With this growth comes increased calls for service, and an increased demand on facilities, apparatus, and personnel.
We want to thank all the citizens of Blackfoot and Bingham County that have supported and assisted us in our mission of assisting them this past year.
As 2026 begins, we remain as committed as always to excellence and readiness in our commitment to you, the citizen. We are proud to serve the citizens of Blackfoot and Bingham County!

Your Blackfoot Fire Department responded to 274 calls for service in the month of December, including 3 chimney fires that were thankfully contained to the chimney by the quick actions of homeowners and responding crews.
Additionally, we had the honor of a retirement ceremony for firefighter/paramedic Kim Getsinger. Kim has served the people of Blackfoot and Bingham County for 17 years, and served in the Idaho Falls and INL fire departments prior to that. His career, all added up, equals 48 years of responding to emergencies and helping those in need.
We are honored to have had his expertise and dedication in the BFD, and wish him a happy and safe retirement! And just like Kim, we are proud to serve the citizens of Blackfoot and Bingham County!

*We apologize for the lettering in the picture, color matching is not our strength. The end of year post, recounting the total calls responded to for 2025, will be out shortly.

We want to wish everyone a merry and safe Christmas, and add a very important reminder to water your Christmas trees if they are live! Much like shutting doors, it gives you precious time to detect a fire and escape, and gives us valuable time to get there quickly and stop the fire before it spreads.
As always we are proud to serve the citizens of Blackfoot and Bingham County, and will be standing by ready to help throughout the holiday. Merry Christmas!

**Structure Fire**
On Thursday, December 4th at approximately 6:45 p.m. your Blackfoot Fire Department was dispatched to the 400 W area of highway 26 for report of a structure fire with multiple other structures threatened. Engine 3 arrived first on scene and confirmed the fire had been stopped by one of the residents of the home.
A hose line was pulled and hot spots were extinguished, while engine 2 went to the roof with a thermal imaging camera to confirm the fire had not spread past the point of origin. The resident who had extinguished the fire was evaluated by paramedics for smoke inhalation, but declined transport to the hospital. Responding units were E-3, E-2, and AB-3.
As snow and cold continue, we'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone, make sure you have working smoke detectors installed in your home! They will save your life, and alert you much faster to the presence of a fire in the home, which allows us to get there that much faster and put it out.
If age or disability restricts you from installing a smoke detector or replacing the batteries, give us a call at 208-785-8605 and we'll be happy to come out and help as soon as we are available. As always, we are proud to serve the citizens of Blackfoot and Bingham County!

One of the unique things about the Blackfoot Fire Department is that we have someone with the oldest paramedic license in Idaho working for us! Kim Getsinger has given us 17 years of hard work and laughs, and this month he is officially retiring! Come join us as we honor his service to the public and his contributions to the Blackfoot Fire Department.

It's officially here! The first snow of the season is hitting tonight. If you are driving tonight, remember to slow down! The roads are slick, visibility is poor, and it is cold! Drive slow, drive safe, and give extra space and consideration to any emergency vehicles (including snow plows!) that you come across tonight. Stay safe!
