Blacksburg Fire Department and Blacksburg Rescue have joined forces this year to bring everyone some important information about fireworks! If you’re 18 or older and planning to celebrate with fireworks at home, please keep these safety tips in mind:
🧨Never hold the fireworks while lighting it. Light the fuse and move to a safe distance immediately.
🎇Avoid setting off fireworks close to buildings, vehicles, and trees. Let’s try to avoid brush fires, and damage to homes and vehicles.
🎆Don’t shoot fireworks at other people. It may seem like fun, but it can quickly lead to serious injuries.
🧨Always place fireworks on the ground before lighting them. Trust us...you do not want one exploding in your hand. We want everyone to keep all the fingers they had on the 3rd of July for the 5th of July.
🎇Let’s talk about sparklers. They’re a 4th of July tradition, but they can burn at temperatures of up to 1,200 degrees. Let’s keep those away from small children.
🎆Fireworks are not truly extinguished and safe until they are submerged in water. Please soak in water before disposing in any trash container.
