Fall Basketball season is here!

Join Blacksburg Parks and Recreation basketball for ages 4-8.

Fun Beginnings Basketball (age 4-5) is designed as a child’s first step into a more organized basketball experience, with a parent or guardian right there alongside them.
Over 4 sessions, kids will start to develop fundamental basketball skills while learning the basics of teamwork, sportsmanship, movement and youth sports.
Parent or guardian participation is required for Fun Beginnings Basketball.

Ready for the next step?

P*e Wee Basketball (age 6-8) introduces young players to a more structured basketball experience while keeping the focus on learning, development and having fun.
Placement Practice is Saturday September 26th. Sessions are held on Saturdays this fall and include a 30-minute practice and a 30-minute game.

Whether your child is just getting started or ready to take the next step, Blacksburg Parks and Recreation is building positive basketball experiences from the beginning.

The series of Yoga for Grounding in Body and Mind Classes scheduled for Thursdays at 2pm at the Blacksburg Community Center are cancelled. The regular Thursday class at 4pm is continuing as usual.

Blacksburg Athletic Site Improvements: Budget Exercise and Survey

Blacksburg’s athletic facilities play an essential role in supporting youth sports, school teams, adult leagues, and community recreation. In recent community feedback, residents expressed a strong desire for improved fields, better lighting, upgraded amenities, and expanded opportunities for year‑round play. To address these needs, the Town of Blacksburg is evaluating potential improvements at two key locations: Winfrey Fields (Winfrey/Kipps) and Old Blacksburg High School (OBHS), which receive the highest annual use and support the widest range of athletic activities. These upgrades are being considered as part of the Town’s 2027 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Because funding is limited, we need your help identifying which projects should be prioritized.

Provide your input: To capture a complete picture of community needs, this project includes two engagement exercises:

A budget exercise that features an interactive tool that can be used to review and prioritize proposed projects
A Facility Use and General Priorities survey.
These engagement exercises will be available until Friday, October 9, 2026.

- In person, by visiting one of three locations: the Parks and Recreation Administration Office, the Blacksburg Community Center, or the Blacksburg Aquatic Center.

Spots are still available in the Fly Tying 102 Class!

This exclusive six-session clinic, held every other week, gives participants the opportunity to learn directly from a true master of the fly-fishing craft. Designed to accelerate their progress and eliminate years of trial and error, these engaging, hands-on sessions provide the expert instruction, practical techniques, and insider knowledge needed to help anglers become more confident and successful on the water. All materials and a comprehensive handbook are included. Participants must be at least 16 years of age.
