Virginia 4-H

Virginia 4-H 4-H is the youth development education program of Virginia Cooperative Extension.

4-H is the youth development education program of Virginia Cooperative Extension. 4-H is rich with learning experiences where young people partner with caring adults and volunteers in a fellowship unlike any other program available to youth today. Through 4-H, young people are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities that emphasize 4-H's "learning by doing" philosophy of youth developm

ent. Standing for head, heart, hands, and health, 4-H uses more than a century of experience in youth development programming to build strong, confident leaders. Young people in the 4-H community learn leadership, citizenship, and a vast array of life skills that benefit them for the rest of their lives. Through school-based, after-school, and community clubs as well as camp settings, 4-H members pledge to build a better community, country, and world.

4-H participants are youth, ages 5 to 19, taking part in programs provided as the result of actions planned and initiated by Extension personnel in cooperation with volunteers. With a direct connection to research at Virginia's land-grant universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University, 4-H is the first experience many young people have with higher education. 4-H is characterized as being community-centered, volunteer-led, Extension-staff supervised, research-based, home- and family-oriented, publicly and privately funded, and responsive to change.

Today is the final day of Dairy Month, and we're celebrating Clara, a 4-H'er with Madison County, VA 4-H! ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ’š

For Clara, dairy is more than a simple project, it's a family tradition. Even without a farm of their own, her family has spent years raising, showing, and promoting dairy cattle, and that experience has helped Clara grow into a confident young showman.

Alongside her Red Holstein, Emily, Clara earned Grand Champion honors at the Madison County Fair, a remarkable achievement that reflects the trust, patience, and care she's invested in her animal. Clara knows that a strong bond isn't built by just seeing your cow every day, but by working hard to make every encounter matter. ๐Ÿ€

Congratulations, Flora, on this incredible achievement! Your hard work and passion for beekeeping are making Virginia 4-H proud. ๐Ÿ€๐ŸŽ‰

Today at Congress weโ€™re taking time to celebrate the seniors who have grown up in the 4-H program. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ€

Today, these remarkable young people gathered to reflect on the journey that brought them hereโ€”from their first 4-H meetings and projects to the leadership roles, friendships, and memories that have shaped who they are today. They shared stories, celebrated successes, and looked back on the moments that made their 4-H experience unforgettable.

As this chapter comes to a close, we hope they leave Congress knowing the impact they have made and the legacy they leave behind. Once a 4-Hโ€™er, always a 4-Hโ€™er. Congratulations, seniors. Your next adventure is just beginning, and we canโ€™t wait to see all that you accomplish.

Ready for today. Beyond Ready for tomorrow!
Today our 4-H Congress delegates took over the Beyond Ready Fair, where hands-on learning met real-life skills! From practical know-how to confidence-building experiences, participants explored stations designed to help them thrive in everyday life and future careers.
Whether learning to sew a button, decision-making, tying a tie, or practicing problem-solving, these young leaders showed curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to try something new.

Shoutout to our volunteers, educators, and partners who made this experience possible! And especially to our youth who showed up ready to learn!
