Memorial Day is a time to reflect on those who gave their lives in defense of our freedoms. The courage and selflessness of these heroes will forever live on in our hearts. Let us remember and honor them today and every day.

Another year of serving our community, growing as providers, and making memories that will stay with us long after the tones drop.

Thank you to every member, officer, and supporter who helped make this year possible. From long nights, difficult calls, trainings, standbys, football games and everything in between this year remind us why VT Rescue is so special.

Here’s to another year of learning, leadership, and service.

Please help us in congratulating our seniors! This year we are celebrating fifteen seniors who have put so much into the squad.

Many of them have held officer positions, and all of them have become role models and mentors for the students who came after them. In addition to their work on the squad, they have worked as full time students.

We are so proud of them and cannot wait to see what they do next. We are sad to see them go, but know they will always be a part of the VTRS family.

Last weekend, the VTRS held its 57th Annual Banquet at the German Club Manor. We had the honor of hearing from keynote speaker Debbie Akers, a former member of the squad and Executive Director of Western Virginia EMS (WVEMS) as well as Amy Orders, Associate Vice President of Public Safety. Throughout the evening, we recognized members for their efforts over the past year, while Katie Lynch, former VTRS chief, shared an agency update highlighting our progress. We also swore in our new officers for the 2026–2027 term.

Thank you to all alumni, university staff, and supporters who came to celebrate another year of Virginia Tech Rescue. A special thanks to Bobby Smallwood, one of the founding members of the VTRS, who was also in attendance that evening, and to Johnny Wen for the photographs.

Today, we continue to remember and honor the 32 lives that were lost in the tragic events of April 16th, 2007.

This morning, 4 of our members joined Virginia Tech President Tim Sands and Dr. Laura Sands in adorning the memorial with wreaths.

We will never forget their stories and the bravery of the first responders who answered the call that day. The Virginia Tech community will always stand together.
