A water main break occurred today after a utility contractor accidentally struck a water line while performing work in the area. City crews are currently on scene working to isolate the break and make repairs as quickly as possible.

Residents and businesses in the affected area may experience temporary loss of water service, low water pressure, or discolored water while repairs are being completed.

πŸ’§ **DROUGHT NOTICE – LEVEL 1 RESPONSE** πŸ’§

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has issued a **Statewide Level 1 Drought Response** due to ongoing dry conditions.

This is **not a water ban**, but we are asking all City of Blackshear residents and businesses to help conserve water where possible.

βœ”οΈ Fix leaks inside and outside your home
βœ”οΈ Turn off water when not in use
βœ”οΈ Only water landscaping when necessary
βœ”οΈ Make sure sprinklers are not watering streets or sidewalks

🚿 **Outdoor Watering Guidelines:**
β€’ Allowed daily between **4:00 PM – 10:00 AM**
β€’ The following are allowed at any time:
– Watering food gardens
– Watering new plants (up to 30 days)
– Drip irrigation or soaker hoses
– Hand watering with a shut-off nozzle

All cases will be rescheduled, and new court dates will be mailed to the address on file.

PRIVATE BENNETT HUBERT WATERS TO BE RETURNED HOME 81 YEARS AFTER HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION IN WORLD WAR II
World War II Private Bennett Hubert Waters, 26, will finally come home to Pierce County Saturday, March 28, over 81 years after he was killed in action in what is now Taiwan.
Members of Bennett’s family and Defense Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Agency confirmed today that Waters has finally been accounted for after his remains were identified using DNA analysis.
An arrival ceremony is planned for Saturday morning, March 28, at Jacksonville International Airport. A funeral procession will follow through northern Florida and southern Georgia to es**rt Pvt. Waters to Pearson-Dial Funeral Home in Blackshear.
Funeral services are tentatively planned for Saturday, April 4.
Additional details will be included in the April 1 edition of The Times.
