This update pertains to the Prince Edward/Nottoway County boundary adjustment. Prince Edward County conducted a boundary survey without prior consultation, and Nottoway County was informed of this action after its completion. Edit...I was informed this evening that Prince Edward did consult with Nottoway before the survey but Nottoway did not agree to the survey. Nottoway County subsequently notified affected residents to determine their preferred county. A meeting was held with Prince Edward County representatives, attended by County Administrator Steve Bowen and Nottoway Commissioner Christy Hudson. However, Prince Edward County maintained that the surveyed line was final, despite Nottoway County's years of taxation of certain properties. The notifications sent to affected residents included information on taxation responsibilities as per the Hurt & Proffitt survey. Mortgage holders are advised to contact their lenders and request their real estate tax bills from both counties' Treasurers' offices.

For 2026 personal property taxes, residents who paid Nottoway County in 2025 will pay Nottoway County in 2026, while those who paid Prince Edward County in 2025 will pay Prince Edward County in 2026. Starting in tax year 2027, both counties will assume taxation responsibilities for new taxpayers. Please direct any inquiries to our office or Prince Edward County.

The Nottowy County Commissioner of the Revenues office will be closed on Friday, July 3rd, in observance of Independence Day. We will reopen on Monday morning at 8:30. We wish everyone a safe, cool, and blessed weekend.

Just a reminder, if you received a personal property form in the mail in January from our office it is due by Friday, May 1st. The forms are ONLY sent to businesses, owners of singlewides and airplanes. Also, any mileage updates are due by Friday also. To qualify for the mileage discount your vehicle will need to have over 100,000 or 130,000 as of January 1, 2026. We will not take any mileage after May 1st. If your form is received after May 1st, you will be assessed a late file penalty. As long as it's postmarked for the 1st or emailed to [email protected] by end of the day May 1st, it will not be considered late.
