To the residents of Blackstone,
I normally would not be providing a public statement about an internal investigation because internal investigations should be confidential to protect the parties involved. Based on the Public Statement from Councilman Nash this afternoon, I feel compelled to set the record straight. The allegations are based on a comment I made about a Town employee on January 8, 2025 in the presence of the Town Manager and another member of Council. The comment I made was not appropriate and I am sorry that I made it. That being said, what I said about this employee was not sexual harassment in any way, shape, or form.
The Town Manager mishandled the complaint from the employee in a number of ways and when I wanted to apologize and make this right, the Town Manager told me not to do so because I would make it worse. Unfortunately, I took direction from the Town Manager against my better judgment. I should have followed my gut and I should have apologized to this employee. After talking to the Town Manager, I thought the issue was resolved in January 2025. However, on March 26, 2025, this employee filed a formal grievance with the Town based on a comment made on January 8, 2025. The formal grievance contains allegations that are not true. I received notice of the grievance on March 28, 2025.
On April 1, 2025, my attorney sent a letter to the Town Attorney providing him with the proper process for handling this grievance. The letter advised the Town Attorney to follow the Town of Blackstone's grievance procedure and that calls for a number of steps. Those steps have not been followed at this time. At my direction, my attorney also requested that the employee’s grievance be investigated. Therefore, I am responsible for having these allegations against me and everything in the grievance investigated. My attorney reminded the Town Attorney that the investigator needs to evaluate the credibility of the witnesses as part of the investigation. I told the truth when I was interviewed as part of this investigation yesterday.
The Town also should be investigating the allegations in Treasurer Morgan’s resignation letter and in the allegations in the newspaper article. Those allegations implicate the Town Manager and others. We will be discussing my request that Council have Treasurer Morgan’s allegations investigated, along with other issues, during the Special Council meeting on April 9, 2025.
