The Virginia Army National Guard officially has two new warrant officer candidates!

WOC Douglas Wissinger and WOC Tres Savage officially started on the path to becoming warrant officers during a small recognition ceremony attended by Chief Warrant Officer 4 Douglas Harris, the Virginia Army National Guard’s Chief Command Warrant Officer, and Chief Warrant Officer 4 Kelvie Fore, the Virgina Army National Guard’s Warrant Officer Strength Manager, Nov. 20, 2025, at Fort Pickett, Virginia.

Wissinger, assigned to the 29th Infantry Division, plans to commission as a 420A Human Resources Technician, while Savage, assigned to 1st Battalion, 111th Field Artillery, plans to commission as a 255N Network Operations Warrant Officer.

Congratulations to both candidates on this exciting transition point in their careers!

Eleven officer candidates enrolled in the Virginia Army National Guard’s Officer Candidate School celebrate the completion of their OCS experience during a commissioning ceremony held Sept. 14, 2025, at Fort Pickett, Virginia. The ceremony recognized the graduates from both the traditional OCS Class 67, as well as the accelerated Classes 68A and 68B. During the event, candidates took the oath of office and were pinned with second lieutenant bars by family members and friends. Retired Brig. Gen. K. Weedon Gallagher served as the guest speaker, while the Troutville-based 29th Infantry Division Band provided musical accompaniment.

U.S. Army Soldiers from across the nation conduct a combined arms live-fire exercise July 21, 2025, at Fort Pickett, Virginia. The exercise was led by cadre assigned to the Fort Pickett-based 1st Battalion, 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute as part of a combined military occupational specialty transition course for Soldiers seeking either the 11B Infantryman or 11C Indirect Fire Infantryman MOS.

This event marked only the second time a CALFX has been successfully conducted by a combined 11B and 11C transition course across the entire National Guard. Forty students are currently enrolled in the course.

Lt. Col. Cari Kelso takes command of the Virginia National Guard’s Fort Pickett-based 3rd Battalion, 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute from Lt. Col. Christina Perronie July 12, 2025, at Fort Pickett, Virginia. Col. Robert “Beau” Mason, 183rd Regional Training Institute Commander, presided over the change of command ceremony and the traditional exchange of colors signifying the transfer of command from Perronie to Kelso.

Army National Guard Education Services is seeking input from Soldiers about education services and Soldiers’ utilization of their benefits with the FY25 ARNG Education Needs Assessment.

The survey covers Soldiers usage of GI Bill, Tuition Assistance, Credentialing Assistance and Testing Programs, among others.

The feedback is important to help improve ARNG education programs and services and ensure ARNG education programs and services are meeting Soldier needs. The survey is conducted every two years with all 54 states and territories.
