c Library is dedicated to being an integral part of the community where people of all ages can meet in a friendly, accessible, and comfortable environment. The Blackstone Free Public Library opened its doors on July 20, 1889, with a transfer of books from the former Blackstone Athenaeum and Library Association. For many years, library stations were maintained in Millville and Blackstone. Shelf space was rented in private homes with paid district carriers transporting books to these locations. In the mid 1930s, the library moved to the Town Hall on St. Paul Street. By 1978, the library occupied 1,374 square feet of the lower level. The need for a larger library became apparent as the town grew. A Planning and Design Grant was submitted to the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners in 1999, followed by a Library Construction Grant in 2001. Both grants were awarded with the balance of funds approved by the voters of the Town of Blackstone. The Grand Opening Ceremony took place on June 13, 2004.

Roger Kabler as Robin Williams. A Kick-Off Event for Adult Summer Reading.
Thursday, June 25, at 6:30 PM.

Roger Kabler appears as Robin in this tribute show, written by Roger in recreation of a Robin Williams comedy special.

Roger Kabler was an actor who had a successful Hollywood career. He has produced and starred in two films, "Who the Hell is Bobby Roos" (2000) and most recently "Being Robin" (2024) where he documents his experience with Robin Williams and how the tribute came to be.

Registration is required. Visit our Events Page.

This program is free and is supported by a grant from the Blackstone Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

"Plant a Seed, Read" is rooted in the concept of farm to table. A farm grows food that nourishes our bodies; a library grows ideas that nourish our minds. Both food and stories connect us to our family, culture, economy, and ecology. "iRead 2026: Plant a Seed, Read," will provide a context for exploring culture, history, science, health, and human connection.

Flyer includes an image from Roger's website, "robinexperience.com." Roger is dressed as Robin Williams with a big smile, standing behind a graphic banner with the name of his show.

Image description: "Remarkably Bright Creatures," a novel by Shelby Van Pelt. "Wry and wise, charming and surprising. I defy you to put it down once you've started," a quote by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney, author of "Good Company" and "The Next." The cover image is a watercolor illustration of a woman with dark hair and a yellow shirt standing in front of an aquarium tank. Inside the tank is a bright orange octopus which is larger than the woman. The octopus is surrounded by the silhouettes of coral and aquatic plants, as well as some fish in the background.
