As students and staff prepare for another school year, the Blackwell Police Department is proud to welcome School Resource Officer Conner Bunney back to Blackwell Public Schools for his second year as our School Resource Officer.

Officer Bunney is committed to helping provide a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment for every student, teacher, and staff member. Beyond ensuring campus safety, he works to build meaningful relationships with students, serve as a mentor, and be a trusted resource throughout the school year.

Today, the Blackwell Police Department joins our community in mourning the loss of Tammy Lynn Mayden.

Tammy dedicated her life to serving others. Whether as a teacher, counselor, advocate, or community leader, she had a remarkable ability to help people find hope, understanding, and a path forward. Through her work with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, the Blackwell Youth Center, and countless community programs, she made a lasting difference in the lives of children, families, and those facing difficult circumstances.

For nearly two decades, Tammy worked alongside the Blackwell Police Department in many different capacities. Her commitment to our youth and our community was evident in everything she did. She was instrumental in establishing Blackwell's first Father-Daughter Dance, bringing the Blackwell Fraternal Order of Police into the event—a tradition the FOP proudly continues to host each year. She also played a vital role in programs that provided mentorship, education, safety awareness, and support to countless young people and families throughout our community.

Tammy's compassion, generosity, and unwavering dedication made her a true pillar of Blackwell. The impact she had on our community cannot be measured, and her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched.

On behalf of the Blackwell Police Department, we extend our deepest condolences to Tammy's family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Thank you, Tammy, for your years of service, your kindness, and your heart for this community. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

📞 What You’ll Do:

Answer and manage emergency and non-emergency calls from the public

Coordinate police, fire, medical, and other emergency services

Maintain communication with officers in the field

Assist with operations at the Municipal Jail

🕒 Shift Work:
This role requires flexibility — including nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime may be required. You’ll be part of our Police Department family, reporting to the Deputy Chief of Police, while dispatching for multiple city departments.

Today, our nation marks an extraordinary milestone—250 years of freedom, courage, and the enduring spirit of the United States of America.

On this day, we remember the brave men and women who fought for our independence, as well as every generation since who has answered the call to defend the liberties we enjoy today. Their sacrifice reminds us that freedom is never free.

As law enforcement officers, it is our honor to serve and protect this community while upholding the principles of liberty, justice, and the rule of law that have guided our nation for two and a half centuries.

Congratulations to one of our own 911 Dispatcher Dailyn Emery!

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Dailyn Emery 🌟

This week, we're proud to recognize Dailyn Emery, one of the friendly and dependable voices behind the City of Blackwell's 911 Dispatch Center.

Dailyn recently celebrated her one-year anniversary with the City on June 16, and in that short time she has become an important part of the team that helps keep our community safe.

As a 911 Dispatcher, Dailyn is often the first person someone speaks to during an emergency. Whether it's answering a call for help or making sure first responders have the information they need, she approaches every shift with professionalism, compassion, and a calm presence.

When asked what she enjoys most about her job, Dailyn didn't hesitate.

"Being able to help people in the community with my incredible group of coworkers."

A Blackwell native, Dailyn was born and raised here, making her role even more meaningful as she serves the community she's always called home.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, curling up on the couch with her pup, and getting lost in a good book.

If she could share a meal with anyone, Dailyn says it would be her grandmother.

"She died when I was pretty young, but she was one of the funniest people I have ever met. I'd love to catch her up on all the crazy things that have happened since she's been gone."

Thank you, Dailyn, for your dedication, your compassion, and for being there when our community needs you most. The work of a dispatcher often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt every day.

🎆 BLACKWELL FIREWORKS ORDINANCE REMINDER 🎆

As we celebrate the holiday, the Blackwell Police Department would like to remind everyone of the City of Blackwell's Fireworks Ordinance. Please help us keep our community safe by following these important rules:

Key Highlights:
• 🚫 The sale, storage, discharge, firing, and use of fireworks within the City of Blackwell is prohibited.
• 🚗 Fireworks may be transported through the city only if they remain in their original, unopened packaging.
• 🎇 Public fireworks displays require a permit issued by the City Manager and must be conducted by qualified individuals.
• 🧹 Anyone conducting a permitted display must clean up all fireworks debris within one hour after the event ends.
• 👮 Fireworks being sold, stored, or possessed in violation of the ordinance may be seized by law enforcement.

We encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly and help protect our neighborhoods, first responders, pets, and property.

☀️ SCHOOL'S OUT — LET'S KEEP SUMMER SAFE! 🛹🛴

With summer break here, more kids are outside enjoying the warm weather, and we're seeing an increase in the use of skateboards, scooters, and electric scooters throughout Blackwell.

The Blackwell Police Department would like to remind everyone of the City's skateboarding and toy vehicle ordinances designed to keep riders, pedestrians, and motorists safe.

Some important reminders:

✅ Use sidewalks whenever they are available.
✅ If no sidewalk exists, ride with traffic and as far to the right side of the roadway as possible.
✅ Always yield to pedestrians, bicycles, and motor vehicles.
✅ Never hold onto or attach yourself to a moving vehicle.
✅ Respect private property and posted "No Skateboarding" signs.

🚫 Skateboards and toy vehicles are prohibited in the business district and many city-owned properties, parks, ball fields, parking lots, and other designated locations.

⚠️ Parents: Please take a few minutes to review these rules with your children, especially if they ride skateboards, scooters, or electric scooters. Understanding the rules helps prevent injuries, protects public property, and ensures everyone can enjoy our parks and sidewalks safely.

Together, we can make this a safe and enjoyable summer for everyone in our community.

Please join the Blackwell Police Department in congratulating Officer Zak Sharp on graduating from the CLEET Academy’s Basic Police Officer Certification program at Pioneer Technology Center in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

We are especially proud to announce that Officer Sharp completed the academy as the Top Academic of his class — an achievement that reflects his dedication, professionalism, and strong work ethic.

Officer Sharp has already proven himself to be a tremendous addition to the Blackwell Police Department. As someone who was born and raised in Blackwell, he understands the importance of community and takes great pride in serving the town he has always called home.

We are excited to watch his career continue to grow and are confident he will represent our department and community with honor.

The Blackwell Police Department has been made aware of a phone scam involving individuals spoofing the department’s phone number and attempting to solicit money from citizens.

🚫 The Blackwell Police Department will NEVER contact you by phone and demand payment or ask for money.

If you receive a call claiming to be from the Blackwell Police Department requesting money, personal financial information, gift cards, or any type of payment:
• Disconnect the call immediately
• Do not provide any personal or banking information
• Do not send money or make payments of any kind

Scammers can manipulate caller ID information to make it appear as though the call is coming from a legitimate phone number, including government agencies and law enforcement.

If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, hang up and contact the Blackwell Police Department directly using an official number.
