🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT – OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS 🚨

The City of Blackwell would like to remind residents about the purpose of our Outdoor Warning Siren System and what to do when a siren sounds.

Outdoor Warning Sirens are designed to alert people who are OUTSIDE that dangerous weather may be approaching. They are not intended to be the primary warning method for people inside homes or buildings.

If you hear a siren:
• Go indoors immediately.
• Turn on local television or radio coverage.
• Check trusted weather apps or your NOAA Weather Radio.
• Be prepared to take shelter quickly if conditions worsen.

Important Things to Know:
• Sirens are not designed to be heard inside every home or building.
• Sirens may be activated for:

Tornado Warnings
Destructive Winds
Large Hail
• Outdoor Warning Sirens are routinely tested by local officials.
• There is typically no “all clear” siren after a storm has passed.

The Best Way to Stay Safe
Outdoor Warning Sirens are only one part of a complete warning system. Residents should have multiple ways to receive emergency information, including:
• NOAA Weather Radio
• Wireless Emergency Alerts on your smartphone
• Local television and radio stations
• Trusted weather applications

Remember: Outdoor Warning Sirens are intended to get your attention if you are outdoors. Once you hear a siren, seek shelter immediately and monitor trusted weather sources for additional information.

Stay weather aware. Know your plan before severe weather strikes.

đźš’ EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT đźš’

This week's Employee Spotlight shines on Hayden Stevens of the Blackwell Fire Department!

Hayden may be originally from Wagoner, but he says Blackwell has quickly become a place he is proud to call home.

"What I love most is the camaraderie between my coworkers and the citizens of Blackwell. Everyone here has been so kind and welcoming. It truly is a joy to come to work every day."

When he's off duty, Hayden enjoys watching baseball and spending time with friends. And if he could travel anywhere in the world, his destination of choice would be Greece, where he would love to experience the country's rich history and beautiful scenery firsthand.

The City of Blackwell is grateful for Hayden's dedication to serving our community and for the positive attitude he brings to work each day.

Thank you, Hayden, for all that you do! And thank you to all of our City employees and first responders who work tirelessly to keep Blackwell safe, strong, and moving forward. ❤️🚒

CITY SPOTLIGHT: Lucas Durocher!

This week the City of Blackwell's Employee Spotlight is shining on Blackwell Firefighter Lucas Durocher.

Lucas has been with the Blackwell Fire Department for nearly a year, bringing dedication and a strong sense of purpose to his role.

What he values most about his work is the people—both the community he serves and the team he works alongside. Lucas believes that the strength of Blackwell comes from its people, and he takes pride in serving them every day. He has deep respect and trust for his fellow firefighters and genuinely enjoys working as part of such a close-knit department. For him, protecting lives and supporting the community is one of the most meaningful callings there is.

Outside of work, Lucas enjoys spending time with friends and family. Lately, he’s been staying active with workouts, tackling home renovation projects, and enjoying concerts and camping trips.

While he doesn’t claim Blackwell as his hometown, Lucas has lived in several places across Oklahoma, including Luther and Yukon.

If given the chance to travel anywhere, he’d choose Egypt to see the pyramids—ideally during their construction, just to witness the history firsthand.

Rain or shine we’re training!
This weekend we hosted a Vehicle Rescue Operations class presented by Fire Service Training. Much was learned during the training, even with a downpour of rain on Sunday morning. We especially want to thank Strickland Road Service for the training vehicles! We COULD NOT have hosted this class without them.
