🚧Planned road closure - Semiahmoo🚧

Drivers should plan for a weekday daytime road closure on Drayton Harbor Road just west of Shintaffer Road, at the location of the current single-lane closure. A detour will be in place during closure hours.

The closure is scheduled from Monday, June 8, through Friday, June 19, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each weekday. Drayton Harbor Road will reopen during evenings and on weekends.

The closure is needed for utility relocation work by Puget Sound Energy (PSE) in preparation for Whatcom County’s upcoming landslide repair project.

Tonight, Officers contacted an elderly woman walking along the shoulder of the I-5 Freeway. Officers quickly realized the woman was suffering from Alzheimer's or Dementia and had wandered away from her home. Luckily, the woman was not injured, and we reunited her with her family.

If you have a family member or friend who may have Alzheimer's or Dementia, there is help available at Amy's Place - Dementia Support Northwest. They offer screening services, caregiver support, and many other resources.

Project Lifesaver is a partnership with the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office that provides a tracking bracelet (free of charge) to those who have started wandering. For more info, click on the link below.

Amy’s Place is a dementia-friendly community hub where individuals living with memory loss and their care partners can gather, connect, and find support.

Tonight, officers stopped this vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes of SR 543. Luckily, an officer was in the area and saw the vehicle going the wrong way before an accident could occur.

The driver was not impaired and blamed the vehicle's self-driving capabilities for the incident. All vehicles equipped with such technology can easily be stopped by simply applying the brakes. The driver/operator of the car is still responsible for obeying all traffic safety laws.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in the service of our nation. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy today.

Blaine PD extends our gratitude to the fallen, to the families who carry their memory, and to all who have served our country with honor.

As our community gathers with family and friends, we encourage everyone to celebrate safely, look out for one another, and never drive impaired.

From all of us, we wish you a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Who said dreams don’t come true? Today, while aid crews from North Whatcom Fire and Rescue - WCFD 21 were on a (non-emergent) call, their ambulance had to be moved to allow traffic to pass. Seizing the opportunity, we got to drive their aid rig and complete a dream of being a firefighter/EMT!
