Happy National Donut Day!

Contrary to popular belief, officers do not receive donuts with their badge, squad car, or duty belt.

However, in the interest of community relations and thorough investigation, our officers have volunteered to sample a variety of donuts today to determine which local bakery offers the safest and most delicious options. Early findings suggest the evidence may mysteriously disappear before it can be logged.

All jokes aside, we hope you take a moment to enjoy a sweet treat today and support one of our local businesses.

And remember, calories consumed on National Donut Day are exempt from investigation. 😜

The City of Blaine has adopted a new ordinance focused on e-bike and e-scooter safety, which is in effect starting today, June 4, 2026.

The goal is simple: keep riders, pedestrians, and everyone sharing our streets, sidewalks, and trails safe.

Here are a few key things to know:

• E-bikes and e-scooters must follow Minnesota traffic laws.
• Riders under 18 are required to wear a helmet.
• Maximum speed of 20 mph for e-bikes and e-scooters within Blaine.
• E-bikes and e-scooters must be operated safely and responsibly.
• Careless riding, including stunts, distracted riding, failing to yield, weaving through traffic, or creating hazards for others, is prohibited.
• Riders must slow down around pedestrians and yield the right-of-way.
• E-scooters are generally not allowed on sidewalks except when accessing adjacent property.
• High-powered "e-motos" that exceed state e-bike limits are not permitted on sidewalks, bike lanes, or trails and may require registration and licensing.
• Violations may result in warnings, citations, fines, or impoundment of the device.

Our goal is not to write tickets. Our goal is to prevent injuries, encourage respectful trail use, and keep everyone safe.

Know the rules before you ride and E-RIDE SAFE.

E-bike or e-moto? There is a difference.

Officer Greene recently joined WCCO & CBS News Minnesota to discuss Minnesota's e-bike laws and what riders and parents need to know about what they are buying.

Many vehicles marketed as e-bikes may actually be e-motos, which can be faster, more powerful, and subject to different laws.

Before you buy or ride, make sure you know the rules. Understanding the difference helps keep everyone safer on our roads, trails, and sidewalks.

Cops are cracking down on a popular way to pedal around town.
