Firefighter Keith Hunter of Volunteer Fire Station 4 is about to be signed off to drive his final type of fire truck in the County. As one last part to his training, four of us from Station 4 went out and did some drafting training from Lake Nottely. Drafting is what most people would think of as "sucking water from a lake". When done correctly, it's acutally using a special priming pump to remove all of the air from the fire pump. Then atmospheric pressure actually pushes the water up into the fire pump and allows the truck to fill with water and also transfer water to other empty fire trucks, it's usual task. Everyone did a great job learning a rarely used, but important-none-the-less, task of being a Driver/Operator. 5/20/26 photos by Firefighter Art Miller.

Today, Station 4 and many of our neighbors came out for a day of fun, food and fire trucks. Station 4 held our Annual Open House and the weather couldn't have been better. Children were able to hold and sq**rt the fire hose with a real life firefighter; they were able to climb into their favorite truck; there were raffles, fire truck bingo with prizes and even a silent auction. Air Life Georgia 14 even came in for a brief appearance before getting called away on a medical emergency flight.
The community enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers and all the fixings were enjoyed by all while sitting around talking with family and firefighters. It was a great day and we appreciate all of our neighbors coming out and visiting with us!
We hope to see everyone again next year!

This past Mother's Day weekend, four of Volunteer Fire Station 4's guys completed their Firefighter 1 testing and certification. They were just four students in Class 108 which took place using Union County Fire Instructors and Testing Evaluators. We're proud of our four guys, Firefighter Bill Garrigan, Firefighter Michael Deyoe, Firefighter Jordan Young and Firefighter Brian Gilliam, plus the rest of Class 108 and their Instructors for giving their all to complete the class and become certified.

Last night, 4/21/26, your Volunteer Firefighters from Station 4 gathered for our monthly practical fire training. Having two recently 'checked off' fire truck drivers (Congratulations Keith Hunter and Brian Gilliam!), we practiced our 'Bread and Butter' operation, using a Fire Engine arriving on scene of a fire and putting attack hoses into operation and flowing water with just the on-board tank water.

Then, prior to the Fire Engine running out of water, a Tanker fire truck arrived and hooked up to the Fire Engine and shared its water with it. While this is happening, other firefighters were laying out fire hose from the Tanker to a fire hydrant. This enabled the Tanker to refill with water and keep the Fire Engine filled with water.

Another scenario involved the Fire Tanker disconnecting from the Engine and driving to a nearby fire hydrant, refilling with water and then returning to the scene to refill the Fire Engine.

A great time of learning and fun was had by all and we are all better prepared to aid you, our neighbors in your time of need. "Our Family Protecting Your Family!"

Oh, and don't forget! Saturday, May 16, is our annual Fire Station 4 Open House event. On hand will be several of our fire trucks, equipment and firefighters, Union County's Air Life Georgia's medical helicopter, and GA Forestry, along with door prizes and silent auctions of items donated to us by our community businesses.

Last but not least, don't forget there will be free hotdogs, hamburgers and all the fixings for everyone! The Open House will run from approximately 11 am to 2 pm. Come on out and have some fun!
