As Sheriff, I've seen firsthand the sacrifices made by the men and women who wear the badge. I've also seen the sacrifices made by the families who stand beside them, especially their children.

This July, as we recognize the inaugural Law Enforcement Child Month, I want to thank every child who supports a parent serving in law enforcement. Your patience, strength, and understanding often go unnoticed, but they are deeply appreciated.

Discover the Union County Sheriff's Office from the inside. Our Citizens Academy will give you a look at how the Sheriff’s Office operates through engaging classroom sessions and demonstrations. Participants will learn about patrol operations, investigations, detention services, court security, emergency response, and the many ways our deputies serve the community each day.

Whether you are interested in learning more about law enforcement, building stronger community relationships, or simply seeing what happens behind the scenes, this academy is a great opportunity to connect with your Sheriff’s Office. Spaces are limited, so be sure to apply early.

Sheriff Shawn Dyer announces the first annual Union County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy. The academy is open to any Union County resident who is 18 years of age or older and interested in learning more about the operations of the Sheriff’s Office and the services it provides. The academy will consist of five Thursday evening sessions held on August 6, 13, 20, and 27, and September 3, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:15 PM. Participants must commit to attending all sessions.

The purpose of the Sheriff’s Citizens Academy is to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of deputies in modern law enforcement.

The goal of the program is to educate citizens on as many aspects of law enforcement as possible. Topics will include daily operations, investigations, tactics, and crime scene management. While the program will not cover each area in extensive detail, participants will leave with a solid introduction to the work performed by the Sheriff’s Office. Each section will be instructed by personnel actively assigned to that area, allowing participants the opportunity to meet and learn from a variety of Sheriff’s Office employees.

Citizens Academy applications and background check forms are available at the front desk of the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, and I want to take a moment to say thank you.

To the dedicated men and women of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, thank you for your commitment, professionalism, and heart for service. You show up every day ready to protect, serve, and care for our community, and always with integrity. I am proud to serve alongside each of you.

I also want to extend my sincere appreciation to all of our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners. The work we do is stronger because of our partnerships, cooperation, and shared mission to keep our communities safe. We could not do this job effectively without your support and teamwork.

To every law enforcement officer and support staff member, thank you for the sacrifices you and your families make. Your service does not go unnoticed, and it is truly appreciated.

Road conditions: 11-10-25 @ 20:15 hours

Snow is beginning to accumulate on some roadways, posing challenges to transportation. Ice is also forming, resulting in hazardous conditions. If feasible, it is advisable to remain indoors. However, if travel is unavoidable, exercise caution and reduce speed.
