Our Story
Turtle Hill Sanctuary is off the Pecatonica River, of the South Western Wisconsin Driftless Region. Flora and Fauna of The Sanctuary is incredibly bio-diverse, including short grass prairie remnant with Prickly Pear Cactus, White Oak Savannah (predating the Civil War), Golden Seal and Wild Ginseng, as well as many other varieties of Native Medicinal plants. Turtle Hill Sanctuary, with the Land Overseer, The Wood Doctor, specializes in Biodynamic, organic land restoration, and sustainably harvest trees, with on site saw mill, and grow and process plants. From minimal and necessary materials we've created an on-site Norwegian-Style Stabbur that is available to rent on AirBnB. The space has been used as a meditative and relaxing spot to RE-Connect yourself with a more environment. We welcome all individuals and groups to come and join us here any time of year. To come learn about our Sustainable lifestyle. The methods we use on the land and with our gardens include ABSOLUTELY NO HERBICIDE/PESTICIDE SPRAYING. We promote Native Growth by using bio-mimicry, prescribed fire and hand pulling. WE MAKE DIRT and use a Greenhouse all year to provide food throughout the year.
